Kaiju (strange beast or monster).

Today, japanese pop culture are well knowed around the world, but in the 60's, it was the beginning of a new
golden age from specialized "Kaiju" movie. I still remember my first "japanese monster movie" at that time,
in a arena that had rent a projector to show my first "Kaiju". I still remember the famous creppy instrumental music
score, japanese army with their guns and tank and monster destroying japan...

The sound was of course very loud from cheap speaker and the movie was in black in white, but was very
effective to a young 6 old boy...

After years and renting again these movie... I think you can visualized a new way to understand some "semiotics" ideas behind these concept, such as the profound after-war syndroma that japan have suffer. Monsters where probably a sementics ways to symbolize the destruction of Japan and showing scars over is peoples and culture. specially, over sequence that monster destroying cities. Beside is little cultural interest of movie
history, I think we should always take a closer look about regarding these movies in a different perspective... I suspect, that there is a lot to analysed in these movie... (anyone in a these research...)

Kaiju (怪獣 kaijū?) is a Japanese word that means "strange beast," but often translated in English as "monster." Specifically, it is used to refer to a genre of tokusatsu entertainment.

Related terms include kaiju eiga (怪獣映画 kaijū eiga?, monster movie), a film featuring kaiju, kaijin (referring to roughly humanoid monsters) and daikaiju (大怪獣 daikaijū?, giant monster), specifically meaning the larger variety of monsters.

The most famous kaiju is Godzilla. Other well-known kaiju include Mothra, Anguirus, Rodan, Gamera, and King Ghidorah. The term ultra-kaiju is short-hand for monsters in the Ultra Series.
