Mushroom foraging this week?
Posted December 24th, 2012 - 12:42 am by from San Francisco, United States (Permalink)
So apparently rainy December is prime chanterelle/other mushrooms hunting time. I like nature, and eating tasty things, so seems like a good combo!

I have a car and am free all Tues-Thurs so hit me up if that sounds interesting. There's some beautiful landscapes around here to explore, all you travelers... Hopefully we can find someone that actually has some experience doing this (all I've got is a guide book).

I'm interested in going if there turns out to be room for another. I have no experience doing, but I want to get out into nature and it would be fun to learn a little about it.

Who else is down to do this during the week? Tuesday, Wedneday, Thursday, or Friday??

If there are enough I will make another activity page for later this week. I have zero experience with this (and actually mushrooms are not nearly my favorite food) but I have always wanted to do this and it sounds fun!

Let me know who else is free :)

So apparently the only mushroom in the Bay Area that you might mistake for chanterelle is this one: http://www.bayareamushrooms.org/mushroommonth/jackolantern.html

But it doesn't kill you, only makes you hallucinate and vomit uncontrollably! Woohoo!

I just got back in town, and if anybody wants to go foraging, i would love to go.. I have 5 years experience picking wild gourmet mushrooms (chanterelle, lobster, porcini, pigs ears, chickens, ganoderma, etc, etc.) I am more in tune to oregon mushrooms, but many of the same ones are growing around here right now. I also have many guidebooks, but most of the regular ones I don't need a book for....

anybody still want to go or have space for me???

Hey! A small group ended up going on Sunday and had the following report:

- Mt. Tamalpias State Park is really pretty and there were a lot of mushrooms to be found.
- If you use the main gate you have to pay $7/person- so don't go through the main gate!

Have a great time!
