Albany Bulb!

Hung out with a CSer the other day who mentioned the Albany Bulb. Supposed to be a pretty cool place in the ocean off of, you guessed it, Albany. Apparently it used to be a construction dump site, but nature has now reclaimed it with trees growing on top of concrete and metal half-structures.

Pretty close to Berkeley - there was a group who went to the Berkeley paths last week but I missed it. Supposed to be a nice place to walk around.

Let me know if anyone wants to go!

Great! I'm doing Food not Bombs that day at 2:30 in Berkeley (you are welcome to join!!) so after that? Around four? My friend who is native to the area said it will be windy and freezing so be prepared :)

Hey guys,

I would love to go or maybe another day when it's a bit warmer. I love taking my little dog out there to run around the beach area. There's also Pt. Isabel in Richmond that's fun to walk and take dogs. I'm in SF but wouldn't mind carpooling with folks to head out here another day. Give me a ring a text at 415-294-1306. Sorry I can't answer to international numbers.

That works - we can go on a weekend day coming up. Does Sat or Sun work better for either of you? I can do both pretty evenly.

Just a heads up guys, Albany Bulb is not what it use to be. I use to go all the time in 2006-2007, but I recently came back in 2012, and it has gone down hill. All the artwork was either torn down by squatters or vandalized with graffiti (bad graffiti).

There are still a lot of squatters, and I did not feel safe.

If you do go...go in a large group. It still is a beautiful place, but it's a mess now with 10x more squatters than in 2007. Probably happened during the recession.

Hey Alex,

I was jut there a couple months ago. I know it's not what it used to be but it's a nice place to visit. I wouldn't go alone t night but it's fine during the day. I take my little dog mostly around the beach area.

If you want to visit another scenic coastal walk nearby there is Point Isabel. It's just a 5 minute drive north of the Albany Bulb.
