Hello! I am planning my long-anticipated trip up US Route 395 (does anyone actually call it that?), and looking for any advice anyone has to offer. I'm thinking I'll do it in the miserable heat of August or early September, from around Owens Lake, up past Goose Lake and into Oregon, to Malheur Lake & Nat'l Forest. Any must-sees? So far on the agenda are:
Alabama Hills
Devils Postpile
Mono Lake
Yosemite high country
Honey Lake
Lake Tahoe(?)
Pyramid Lake(?)
Eagle Lake(?)

I've been to Mono Lake, all over Yosemite & Tahoe, haven't been to Lassen in many years. Might be due to put my name in the book at the top again. Also, is anyone living along the route? I will bring camping supplies, but I wouldn't mind finding some surfers here & there.

I may have other questions as I continue to plan and as the departure date nears. Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like a great trip, Mammoth is wonderful particularly the June lake loop. There are some hot springs to go see "hot creek" Then in Bridgeport camp near the Buckeye hot springs.
Have fun.
