Posted October 20th, 2012 - 4:59 pm by from San Bruno, United States (Permalink)
Looking at tickets and wondering if it is necessary to have tockets to experience carnival. Just went to Oktoberfest in Munich without tickets and still had an amazing time. Any thought or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Robin and Kevin, good morning!
The "official" parade of carnival in Rio happens on Sapucaí where the samba schools parade. And for watch them is necessary to buy a ticket. (Two days of parades)

But, in Rio they have the Street Bands and parties that happens across the streets. Groups of people follow the band's procession, having fun, dancing and singing samba. And the best is that its free. So you don't have to have tickets to experience that!

Here are some links for you to know a little more about the carnival in Rio.

NEW UPDATE:
Bought my tickets today. The office booth is in a parking lot behind Sector 11, close to Rua Frei Caneca X Av. 31 de Março crossing. Amazingly, there wasn't anyone in the queue by the time I arrived (around 10:30 AM), and the whole process was quite easy.
They still had tickets for Sectors 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 (Sector 10, only for the Monday parade).
Important info:
1) They still require a CPF, but there is no limit to the amount of tickets you can buy with one CPF.
2) They accept *cash only*.
Cheers,
Eddie

NOVA ATUALIZAÇÃO:
Comprei meus ingressos hoje.
Abs,
Eddie

Dear Camilla, only 2 days in Sambodromo? So if i stay in Rio only 8-9 Feb - there is no sense to go there?? Sapucai is Sambodromo?
This rio-carnaval.net is a good place to buy tickets?
Which sections for reasonable amount of money are sufficient to see things and enjoy the event

Where to go to see Street bands at these dates? What would u recommend?
Also how to move in the city during these days?? Metro and busses will be working???

Thanks a lot in advance
Lidia

Gabriela (e a galera brasileira):

a friend of mine suggested to go on sat and sun directly to the sambodromo and find tickets there - they could end up to be less expensive than buying them in the internet. obviously, need to get some precautions to avoid being stuffed

can you share your direct / indirect experience on this?

muito obrigado e ate´ amanha no CS party!

Keyy

hello,
it is really obligatory to have a ticket in advance? can't I get it at the entrance?
can't you just choose the sector tt you like and pay at the gate?
Tatiana

no ... buy first need to secure a place .. hihihi

Posted January 15th, 2013 - 7:03 pm by from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Permalink)
@Tatiana,
The tickets will be sold out long before the day of the parade (many Sectors already don't have tickets available). There certainly will be many scalpers selling tickets on the way to the gate, but be aware that their prices may be ridiculously expensive, and there's still the risk that you may buy a fake ticket...
Cheers,
Eddie

Sorry, but you have to inform people that tickets purchased in Liesa need CPF number, as well as popular entries have to buy the phone, I say, that people do not perderen your precious time in a place where is full of people of resellers and contesting every subway line to buy a ticket to resell later, sending tourists there and they will not get anything not advisable! if you do not know the correct information, better to say nothing! greetings to all
