Looking for somebody who will let me play their piano!
Posted April 11th, 2009 - 5:44 pm by from Utrecht, Netherlands (Permalink)
Dear everybody in the world,

I am looking for a piano to play. There is little as important to me in the world as making music. It does not matter where you live, because I will travel to you. I dream of staying somewhere for a number of days, or even weeks if that is okay, to play for SEVERAL HOURS per day. So if you're thinking of hosting me, bear in mind that you will hear a lot of music :)

There is no particular timeframe attached to this. I am a freelance translator so as long as I sit around with my laptop here and there, it does not matter where I am, so this is an open request. I always need a piano.

I a very independent individual, but I like being very social as well, and with all the surfing I have done, I always enjoy getting to know my host(s) and building lasting friendships. I can spend many solitary moments pleasurably, with or without a piano, but I also enjoy good conversations, delicious dinners and excellent company, and a good balance between depth and humour.

As for my piano playing skills, I'd rather not make any clear statements about it, because it is easy to be pretentious when in the eyes of some I am a prodigy and in the eyes of others (professionals) I play very poorly. It is true I make a lot of mistakes when I play so don't expect any flawless concerts :)

As for what kind of music I play, I mostly play classical music, but I read music well, so I will probably end up playing whatever sheetmusic you have lying around. I really enjoy learning new pieces/songs so by all means make requests.

In return for letting me stay as a temporary live-in house musician, I will be happy to teach a little to beginning pianists! I have a little bit of experience teaching to friends and family. I also enjoy cooking so I can be your kitchen assistant :)

I want to be very straightforward about the way I see this and what I expect of this: what is most important to me is that I get along well with you (I am a very loving person and like giving and receiving love :D), and that you don't mind that I play A LOT of piano. I also need a bit of time for doing translation work. And generally in the eveningtimes I would enjoy spending time with you (and your family), although of course as a secondary aim I will enjoy exploring the town you live, go to optional couch surfing meetings, go for walks, etc.

As I am in Europe at the moment, and prefer travelling overland, at the time I´m writing this, I would prefer you to live in Europe, although if you don't mind that it will take some time before I reach you, then it doesn't matter where you are!!! We can work something out!!!

Hoping to hear from you!
Isa

Hi Isa,

You are most definitely welcome to visit Greece and play my piano!

Thanks for these responses! Especially Greece and Slovakia on the short term seem doable for me. Taipei may have to wait a bit longer, as it is so far away (as I told you in a personal message), but I will definitely consider it when (not if!) I make it to the far east.

If there are any more pianos en route in Europe, or somewhere along the way to India, Malaysia (all overland of course!) I would love to hear about them! :D

Hi Isa

We are looking forward to see you. May will be perfect time.
Piano is an old R. Waldhausl from Wien. We do not have any neighbours so you can play any time (unless it will disturb forest animals or ghosts in a castle).

ANY PIANO PLAYERS ARE WELCOME !!!

Margaret

I am sure that the only ghost I will disturb is Bach's, who will be spinning in his grave at hearing me play ;)

This one has quite a distance, lol

Isa

You mentioned you are travelling overland, so you may never make it to the US (unless you wait for the Bering Strait to freeze over and rent some sled dogs). But if you do come here you're free to play my piano 24 hours a day if you want. But there will be a price. I will ask you to play my compositions and correct my mistakes. See, I only play by ear and when I write my music down I am not exactly Wolfgang A.

Charles

Yes, the US may be a bit difficult for me at the moment... but I can travel by boat too, I'm just TRYING to avoid aviation at the moment :)

However, as the US keeps luring me in against my will (I somehow end up in the US at least every 2 years) I may very well pay you a visit in Jamestown!

On your profile you say you are in Spain April 19-28. Well what a coincidence - I happen to be in Spain April 19-28 as well (start and end date exactly coinciding...this is not a joke)! So if you're up for it maybe we can see if we happen to be in the same towns too and if it is viable to meet! Then we can both lament not having a piano nearby and brainstorm ways to get to the US without flying :)

Posted April 13th, 2009 - 11:35 pm by from Jamestown, United States (Permalink)
That's really a coincidence, Isa. Ok, I am flying to Barcelona and will be traveling around but I will be staying with a friend-couchsurfer in Tarragona who has a piano! Can you match that?

I am trying to change my photo back to one I had before where I'm playing the piano and trying to be funny. If my "silent tenor" picture does not appear here you can see it if you check my other photos.

Hi Isa - I just joined this group and read your post. It's wonderful to hear about someone with such passion and enthusiasm for piano playing!
I'm sorry to say that I live across the ocean from where you are, and that I don't possess an amazing piano (just a rather ordinary, and much-used, upright)....but you would be most welcome to visit if you make it across the Atlantic someday.
Happy travels to you. - Todd

Hi Isa !!

Everybody invites you to play the 'magic instrument' all over the world, also Mozzart said the same .. ;D

I'm Matej from Slovenia.
I run a World-Wide-Audio-Collaboration project. I was wondering if probably you can play the piano for our project. I will give back the favor.
I know that you're looking for something other, ..

Best wishes..
Matej

You can play our piano anytime :)

Posted May 18th, 2011 - 10:39 am by from Belgrade, Serbia (Permalink)
Hi, Isa! Come play our piano this summer or autumn and we can even help each other with our work, because I am a translator too. Just come to Belgrade and stay a couple of days with us- my boyfriend and me, and our cat and little dog! Of course, if you are not allergic to cats or dogs and if you don't mind little creatures rubbing against your legs in a cuddly way :)

Posted May 18th, 2011 - 10:47 am by from Belgrade, Serbia (Permalink)
Oh, I just forgot to say, there is a big and comfortable couch for you to sleep on, and you would have the room for yourself at night, if you need a clean soprano to help I'm right here, and we live at the very edge of the most beautiful forest in this area so the inspiration is right there too, and we are not far from bus/railway station in Belgrade. So, feel welcome, our piano is getting lonely because we rarely play it :)

Posted April 16th, 2012 - 12:11 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Hi Isa!

I have read your long post, your extensive profile and all your references. And even though we are 20 years apart in age, I feel that we could share a lot and enjoy each other's company.

I have a wonderful grand piano which deserves to played more. At least during day time, playing for hours is perfectly ok.

If you bring your accordeon, we could play some tangos together. Of course, Berlin is the perfect place to go tango dancing. That is part of the reason why I moved there from Hamburg 1.5 years ago.

I'll be back from Argentina in the beginning of May.
Let me hear from you.

Cheers,
Pete
