Date confirmations
Posted January 29th, 2013 - 3:39 pm by from Colon, Costa Rica (Permalink)
Time flies. I'd like to hear from those coming about their dates of stay. Arrival dates would be good as well as leaving dates. It's fine to email me off list with those dates...I have a separate schedule for people surfing with us. I do need to know by February 1, if at all possible.

There will be a tentative schedule of people and couches and events put up as soon as I have enough information from you to do that. There will be a meal together the afternoon/evening of March 1, a morning or afternoon of horseback riding one day, possibly a tour of a local woodworking workshop and gardens, a lunch at a local restaurant, and day trips can be arranged to volcanoes etc. Let me know what you want to do, and I'll see what I can do to help arrange it. The finca (farm) and 2 of its houses will be the home base, and other lodging options, as well as car rental companies, are covered in other posts earlier.

Bottom line is I need to hear from people who've not yet confirmed, especially if you're planning to stay at the finca, and I need dates for everyone, as well as activity preferences and ideas. Of course, you
re welcome to just hang out on the finca and drink Cuba Libres and play cars if you like:)

That would be "play cards". Hopefully.

If it's okay, I'll come on the 28th and leave on the 3rd or 4th, depending on what works for you.

I also would like to know if I can bring my service dog (for blood sugar and stress) - she's a chihuahua and totally obedient and quiet.

@Linda,

We'd love to have you, but we have a firm no indoor pet policy on the finca. You weren't the only person to ask. We have guests with allergies, and guests with newborn babies, and it's just a bad idea. Tried it, regretted it.

@Naeem,

I look forward to meeting you another time. Let me know if something changes and you can make it!

Sharon,

Right now this got squeezed between a trip to Dubai (late Feb.) and Orlando (mid-March).

Definitely looking forward to visiting you in Costa Rica, hopefully later this year.

Hi Sharon et al,

Thanks again for setting up this event and allowing us to take over your home, I'm sure it's going to be fun
I think I've let you know my basic plans but I'll detail them again clearly below:-

26/02/13 Fly London - San Jose via Miami** ETA 10:20pm. I intend to book a hostal/hotel with airport pick-up in San Jose
27/02/13 Day to relax and explore in San Jose
28/02/13 Come out to the finca using public transport - if thats OK with you? I'm happy to help you prepare for others and cook for us.
PURA VIDA ACTIVITIES
Depart 4th or 5th ^^depending on how things are going and next destination/adventure!

** I have 2 hours between my BA flight landing and AA onwards to SJO. I'm warned by friends that Miami can be a pain and US officials awkward therefore there is a risk of missing my connection. This would mean me staying overnight to await the next days flight to SJO.
Any advice, from anyone or first hand experiences welcomed on this?

^^ I Want to explore the rest of Costa Rica and don't want to overstay the welcome so date flexible.

I had intended to go off on my own using public transport - better chance of meeting people - perhaps staying with other CS'ers or in hostels. However if anyone else wants to join me to do the same, then maybe we could hook up, play it by ear!

21/03/13 Fly SJO - LON via Dallas arrive 10am 22/03/13

I'm getting excited and now its only 4 weeks away, looking forwards to meeting you all.

Aarnexia (and Kiki)...sorry to lose you. Maybe next year? Virginia won't be able to make it, either. I'm hoping to hear from more of you. Nudge, nudge.

I was inspired by Steve's detailed itinerary. I was not sure you needed to hear from us as we already confirmed for 2/1/13-2/7/13.....or in Europe, that would be 1/2/13-7/2/13;-)

We are going to begin trying to get on standby flights on the 22nd of February. We were planning to stay with another couchsurfing host on the south Pacific coast who is into the same type of permaculture and aquaculture activities that we are. But then he got an opportunity to go to Cuba for a Permaculture project. We may rent space in the hostel his family leases to another family....but they are filling up quickly because of the Envision Festival beginning on 27 of February. (If they had day passes, I would be tempted to go) Today they have a room for us until the 1st, but who knows if we are not ready to commit. We were planning to come to your finca on February 1 as I thought that was the earliest possibility. We will stay for a week if that is OK. We were considering renting a car for the first week when we were on our own, but not for the week with y'all.

Of course seeing Steve's plans, I find myself wondering if we want to do an extra week after our week at the finca rather than before. Of course with standby flights I don't have to make a decision now. My husband will only take two weeks from work, but I have a bit more flexibility.

Sanda, I just hope you mean March 1:) I'm having a little trouble figuring your schedule out, but I'm all about flexibility:) Just keep me in the loop. The kind of official dates are March 1 to March 7, but I figure people will come and go.

Ooops, I got myself confused with the two systems. I should have used words instead of numbers. Of course, I meant March 1 to March 7. We are looking forward to it. Thanks so much for organizing this.

HI. i certainly intend to be there for the week of the event. I am not sure how long I will be there before or after the event. With the standby flights and always something going on at home, it is difficult to commit.

Thanks for doing this!

Hi Sharon,

Sorry I will not be able to make it this time. Look forward to visiting you in the future.
