Nice! Have you been there before? What is there to expect in terms of camping environment?

I read somewhere that you aren't allowed to bring in alcohol into the campsites? Is that true? Is it easy to sneak in alcohol in the campsites? Surely campsites should allow leniency and, if they need to be strict, do so at the festival grounds.

Oh really? So after you set up your camp, you can walk out of the festival ground, go to a nearby supermarket, and bring drinks in no problem?

Do we need to sneak them in or can we just walk in with them?

I will be in Europe from the end of June and will be travelling solo for the first time. Really keen on going to Sziget but a little bit nervous about camping by myself! I'll be buying tickets soon and haven't decided whether i'll camp or stay in a hostel yet but the couchsurfing crew seem pretty easy going, so I might be jumping on the camp bandwagon with you guys.

Posted February 17th, 2013 - 7:24 am by from Istanbul, Turkey (Permalink)
as a person who experienced both(3* hotel in 2011 & camping in 2012), i can say camping is better...

Posted February 17th, 2013 - 11:40 am by from Zierikzee, Netherlands (Permalink)
Ok cool.. I'll have to have a think about it. Looks like a bunch of fun!

I'm probably going this year too :)

For this year lets have the camp somewhere beneath the trees though... I've heard people doing that, who could (theoretically) sleep in untill like 15.00 :)

yeah but I found that, even if you're not in direct sunlight, its still a big difference if you are in open field (with shade from the trees on the side) or all the way beneath the trees.. much cooler there.

I think we can easily find such a place since there's a lot of tree coverage.

Posted March 6th, 2013 - 1:41 pm by from Tirns, Netherlands (Permalink)
I want to propose this patch of trees:
http://goo.gl/maps/VQCHH

It looked very nice last year (you know, with the white christmas lights :P ), its quite big, and cool enough to be able to sleep in until like 12-13 o'clock.

I like that place Popke. Although I think that whole area is reserved for those who have purchased the Alternativa Camping Upgrade this year.

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like it according to their website:

http://www.sziget.hu/festival_english/ticket/ticket_info__prices

Alternativa Camping Upgrade Ticket:
The new area of the campsite is nice and shady, situated very close to the World Music Stage and within a few minutes of walking distance from the main entrance and the Main Stage

---------------------------------------

And here's the map:
http://www.sziget.hu/content/_common/images/fesztival/szigetterkep2009_0723_angol.jpg

-------------------------------------

I bought the Alternativa Camping upgrade. Did anyone else buy it? We might need to pick two spots, one for those with the camping upgrade and one for those without the upgrade.

Posted March 19th, 2013 - 1:06 pm by from Tirns, Netherlands (Permalink)
Ow i see.
However last year the world music stage was on the southside, looking out on that grassy hill (nr 28 on that map). Also, seeing that the Alternativa camping is a few minutes from the main entrance, i'm guessing it is somewhere near there.

Hi together,
I also bought my ticket already. I look forward to see you all there!
For me it will be the first time Sziget, too.
If I got it right, today is the last day to register for the canoe trip (there is one before Sziget and one afterward, see here: https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/events/canoeing-tours-hungary-budapest).
I have already registered for the trip afterwards, so perhaps I see some of you there as well.
Cheers,
Markus

Hi everyone!

I just bought my ticket and can wait to meet you all ;) .
One thing for the Frenchy, I realise that the price in the French website ishigher than in the English or Hongarian one. the Early bird price should be 199€ but it is 203€ in the French one + administration fees. So could be better to purchase it in the other sziget site and the price is also in Euro so...

Cheers,

I bought my ticket few mins ago, too. And if grup will decide to stay at the alternative camping are, I'm going to have this ticket too.

Hope to see you there

usually it is hard to meet with the campers even when you are a camper too :D but dont be afraid... there is usually a "couchsurfing" flag (or any other flag that people will be declaring from here) that you can spot and find people under it :)

On Sziget site, i was checking the sponsors and saw Yeni Rakı :D get ready for serious drinking :D

by the way, my status about coming to sziget is still not coming but life is full of suprises...

Hi guys!

I am coming back this year too... Missed it last year but was here 4 years in a row before that... Always staying with the surfers...

Anyone who wants to being alcohol... Sleeping bags CAN be a good place to hide them in ;)

I usually buy the ticket just outside the gate from some local who has a "crew" ticket... Costs less and you don't have to cue in some places... Especially entering and exiting the island...

Hugs and kisses,
Magnus
