going to Monterrey 22nd of February
Posted January 18th, 2010 - 12:58 pm by from Aix-en-Provence, France (Permalink)
Hey everybody!!

I am doing my second semester in Monterrey in the TEC university (EGADE business school).

I need some advice on accommodation in Monterrey. Could someone tell me the dangerous area, the safest area? do you have some website to rent a room or a flat??
I can only spend $400 all included (internet, bills).
I would really appreciate some good advice on the city and everything I sould know.

I am fluent in Spanish since I lived 3 years in Spain and I would love to meet true mexican people!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Amélie,

I guess the area around Tech is best for you. Like Alta Vista, Roma, or on the other side of Garza Sada (forgot how its called there). The safest area are in San Pedro / Valle, but that far and its pretty good around here.

I live here 3 block from Tec with my family and we walk to the park (als0 with my little girl).

For 400 usd (5000 pesos) you get a shared apartment within 4-5 blocks from the Tec. If you share with 2 others for that price you get services included. Since usually decent house with private bedroom share living kitchen etc. is 10.000 pesos (no services that are around 1500-2000 p/month). So share with 2 and you are on the safe side.

When you come you will find lots of ads around Tec for female roomies or place one yourself on the many boards.

If you need a temp place I could ask the girls next door. They are renters and study in Tec. But I do not know them that well (since they change all the time :-) I can get you their phonenumbers. Maybe they know sites where you get rooms/houses.

Let me know if you need a hand.
