new to LB/Can someone tell me about Alamitos Beach?

I've been staying in Hawthorne, visiting, but I've decided to stay permanantly. I'm pretty sure I'll be moving to Long Beach, to Alamitos Beach, near 1st and orange, I was hoping someone could tell me a little about the area, what there is to do, jobs, nightlife, safety, or if you'd like to hang out, etc. Thank you!

I live in the Alamitos Beach neighborhood of Long Beach. I live on Appleton and Hermosa which is 5 blocks of so where you are interested in living.

Here's what I can tell you:

There are tons of great restaurant.
It's very LGBT friendly and has tons of gay bars. I make the short walk to 4th street for great mixed scene dive bars myself.
Where you will be located is a short walk or bike ride from downtown.
it's very bike and skateboard friendly with tons of bike lanes.
Alamitos Beach is definitely one of the safest areas in Long Beach. I've never felt fear of anything while living here for about 2.5 years.
We have a vibrant and active CS community with several active members only living a short walk away from Orange and 1st.
Parking is very difficult in the area, especially on certain days but you learn to work with the street cleaning schedule.
Close by is the Bluff and Bixby Park where people hang out, they have farmer's markets in the warmer months, do yoga, and other community things.

Overall it's ideal and you will love it. I know I do. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to email me at wesican@gmail.com or for a slower response ask me on here.
