Fall Event Saturday, October 23
Posted October 17th, 2010 - 5:01 pm by from Sutton, United States (Permalink)
Worcester County Couchsurfers,

We will have a very nice, extremely active Couchsurfer from Dusseldorf, Germany surfing with us next weekend. Anja's profile can be found at http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/duesseldorf/ .

Anja is a journalist and author, including works on travel and couchsurfing. As you can see from her profile, she is an extremely active Couchsurfing member, both from a host and surfer perspective. She is currently traveling the US from San Francisco, CA to NYC, having made stops in Chicago and Toronto. She will arrive at our home in Sutton on Friday, 10/22.

We would like to plan / host a Worcester County event so that Anja will have the opportunity to meet some of the local CS members. Ideas we are considering include the following:

1. King Richard's Faire - Carver, Mass
http://kingrichardsfaire.net/

Tickets are a little expensive at $26; however, the few times I have been here over the years have always proven to be fun days. I believe it is also possible to find $5.00 off coupons. If you don't know KRF or Carver, it is a little over an hour south east of here. We could carpool and parking is free.

2. Six Flags Fright Fest - Agawam, Mass
http://www.sixflags.com/newengland/tickets/index.aspx

Also a bit expensive at $33.00 for general admission & $15.00 for parking. An hour drive to Agawam.

3. Davis' Farmland Mega Cornmaze - Sterling, MA
https://www.davisfarmland.com/megamaze/images/megamaze_survivor.jpg

Davis' is always a fun destination this time of year. Perhaps the most appropriate venue since this years maze is a world globe. Tickets are only $17.00 and parking is free.

4. Keown Orchards - Sutton, MA
http://www.keownorchards.com/

Keown's is just behind my neighborhood, and next weekend is their annual Pumpkin Fest. Wagon rides out to the pumkin fields are free and you pay just 49 cents per pound for pumkins you pick. The farm store will also have apples and other typical farmstand items for sale. Since the farm is only a half mile from my home, we could have a bit of a house party before or after.

5. Purgatory Chasm State Reservation - Sutton, Mass
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/purg.htm

If it were a nice day, we could do a hike in Purgatory Chasm. Everyone could bring a picnic lunch and we could all share, having a nice picnic on the top of the Chasm.

6. Halloween House Party - Sutton, Mass
It might be fun to have a Halloween costume party at the house. Organizing this last minute might be a bit of a challenge for me given I travel full time; however, if everyone wanted to bring a dish & BYOB, we could hang around, talk about travel, play WII, watch scary movies, etc, etc.

7. Open to any other ideas you might want to throw out to the group.

Please repond if you would like to attend and vote for the event that would be of most interest to you. We will decide on venue based on both the weather and majority interest.

Keith
