Dear fellow flat hunters,

I guess the title of my message is describing a difficult phenomenon. Therefore I thought about another solution: let's gather a significant number of people in need of accomodation and rent a flat (or even a house, depending on how many of us would be interested) together. In my humble opinion, it could not only solve the pragmatic problem of not having a flat, but also help to find people to get along with (since we are all couchsurfers). I am a bit tired of moving in with totally random strangers.
Right now I am not in Austria, so I can't take leadership over the flathunt. But still, I am interested in your opinions and options to figure out a solution!

Looking forward to hear from you!
Anna

We are in (2 guys from CS) - definitely! The situation is a disaster and for foreigners even worse, since the society is not that open as you can think when they nicely smile to you.

I am happy to hear that so many people are interested! Please post the results of your meeting here. As I stated above, I can't be there as I am in Sweden. But please count me in! Since the deposits for houses (or big flats) are quite high, the more people we can "fit in" to the house/flat filling all the rooms that can be inhabited, so that both rent and deposit can be as low as possible for every individual.

Here, I found some "smaller" offers:

http://www.jobwohnen.at/index.php?id=198&spg=2&objkID=629342
(4 rooms, 2 big ones and 2 small ones)

http://derstandard.at/anzeiger/immoweb/Detail.aspx?InseratID=6654048
(2 rooms)

http://derstandard.at/anzeiger/immoweb/Detail.aspx?InseratID=6736882#7
(2-3 rooms, depending on definition)

http://derstandard.at/anzeiger/immoweb/Detail.aspx?InseratID=6735894
(the ad. says this are 4 appartments in a villa, consisting all together of 6 rooms)

http://derstandard.at/anzeiger/immoweb/Detail.aspx?InseratID=6735131#4
(this one does not say how many rooms it has, but it's possible to decide if we want it furnished or not)

I am not the best in searching, this is something I have to admit. Do you think it's possible to find something where the rent would not be higher than 300 and the deposit not higher than 600 per person? :-)

I think the contact person with the owners should be the person with best German. I speak it, so if you need my help, no problem. It's just that I cannot visit rooms.:(

Cheers,
Anna

Hey,

I'm also intrested in this "project". At the moment there are already so many people interested, that maybe even several appartments should be considered.
Is it possible, that if you have a meeting you could give a brief overview also here, what you figured out. I think it might be difficult to get together ALL the people interested and as I read, some people (me included) are not in Austia, so they could also be informed. That would be very nice if somebody would would do that :)

What do you think about meeting today at 5 at the Pruckel Cafe?

did you manage to find the new CS house?:)

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 8:03 am by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
My priorities are more or less the same as yours - I'd prefer a furnished room, when it comes to the size I'm flexible (I should be able to do a handstand in there, as long as that works it's fine I think :P), Location is all right as long as I don't have to travel more than 30-40 minutes to uni (Nußdorfer straße) or to the centre.

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 8:06 am by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
Oops, replied to the wrong post, mine's supposed to be one step further down ;)

Posted October 12th, 2012 - 11:37 pm by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
Wow, we could almost build our own village with this growing amount of participants! :D

But yes, we can't really get everyone in one accomodation, even if we rent a house. For this reason I suggest that everyone lists their priorities (price, location, furniture, size of the room) and get connected with individuals who have the same priorities.

From my side, I want a furnished room for as little money as possible. Location doesn't matter to me at all. The size of the room is something I can adjust my expectations and be flexsible about. :)
Who thinks the same? Let's get together!

Cheers,
Anna

yesss, let's make a CS Bezrik in Vienna, it's all so demotivating with the flats!
Anna, actually from my side I want the same:) the location does matter a little bit (don't want to live in the suburbs:)
let's get together and build some tents in the MuseumsQuartiet, maybe they will notice our homeless problem:)

This advertisement looks good! I am interested. Elisabeth, let us know what the owner of the flat replies. There is only 1 detail:it says it has 5 rooms, but the detailed description below says that it has 4 bedrooms, so the 5th room is probably meantg to be the living room. But who knows, maybe we can arrange it for someone to live in, depemding on how the flat is constructed.

I am still not in Austria. :( But if you can take pictures, you can share them with me. Or otherwise I will have tgo trust your impressions. :)

Cheers,
Anna

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 2:34 pm by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - it'd probably be fine to use it for 5 or 4 people, one doesn't necessarily need a living room. In any case it won't be too expensive I think!

I'll let you know when I get a reply from the owner!
Maybe you could all write when you'll be in Vienna, just so that it's easier to plan?

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 4:14 pm by from Krakow, Poland (Permalink)
ok, so let's say the end of next week, but anyway I trust in your taste,so in case the flat is quite ok and not expensive, I'm for it:)
that's desperation after two weeks of flatsearch in Vienna:)

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 8:39 pm by from Vienna, Austria (Permalink)
Got an answer! He says he's also not in Vienna at the moment but will be back in two weeks. In the meanwhile he can send photos of the apartment.

Maybe we should make a group on facebook or something to keep in touch and stay updated? Might be easier and more orderly than discussing on here.

Posted October 13th, 2012 - 10:03 pm by from Krakow, Poland (Permalink)
woooow it works, impossible!
well then, let him send the pictures, but actually in my state of desperation I would take anything free:)
I don't have FB:) so please update me with emails on behemot0@autograf.pl if u could:)

We have people interested, but someone has to sign the contract. The owner is away and will be back next week. I am afraid I will be in Sweden still.

Do we have someone of the interested people who already is in Vienna? that would be the best way:)
and are we already 5? otherwise it will be really expensive:)

I'm in Vienna :) So I'll go take a look at the apartment at the first opportunity to do so. There are currently 9 people in the facebook group, so I'm sure we'll have 5 people ready to sign a contract when the time comes.

And Marta, I think we'll have to give preference to the ones that are staying for longer, but in case there'll be a free room I'll let you know!

The owner of the apartment we're considering will be in Vienna again on friday, so hopefully I (and whoever wants to come) will be able to take a look at it then. We're already a fair amount of people (I think 10 by now?) in the facebook group, so I assume that if we get that apartment it'll already be full, but I think it would be a good idea to keep searching for apartments so that there could be a second CS apartment if needed!

hello everybody! that project sounds amazing! if i didn't have an apartment already I'd surely like to join in, haha.. my best friend from Mexico (Kenia) is looking for a room tho and I'd be lovely if you could eventually count her in as well.. her preferences are more or less the same as yours, so seems to be perfect :)!

Hello I am interested in the room in the 3rd district, and any other room in an apartment. My conditions are that the apartment has to be non-smoking, the monthly rent with bills included at a maximum of 420 and preferably not in the 20,21,22,23rd district (i do not want a long commute to university). i am a university student in the last year of my masters program. i am originally from portland, oregon.

Ok boys and girls,

I am back in Bratislava (=close enough to Vienna) so I can finally join the search. Whoever is still "homeless", is more than welcome to join me.
Here is one interesting advertisement:
http://www.jobwohnen.at/wohnung-detail/Wohnung-in-1170-als-WG-geeignet-/630236
The good thing about it is that it seems that all the 3 rooms are possible to be arranged as private bedrooms. So, please have a look and if you like it send me a private message or respond here. I guess it would be best to arrange a visit in the flat for all the 3 people interested together.

http://www.jobwohnen.at/wohnung-detail/Naehe-Elterleinplatz/630253
This advertisement does not explicitly say how many rooms would be in question as bedrooms, but maybe it would a good idea to consider.

http://www.jobwohnen.at/wohnung-detail/2-gr.-und-1-kl.-Zimmer.-in-Waehring/630074
This flat seems to be very similar to the 1st one listed above

If anyone else has found similar ads (regarding the flat conditions), go ahead and share them. :)

Looking forward to your suggestions!
Anna

Hy guys

I am Alex and very
open minded Austrian, who wants to move back to Austria after 5 years abroad. I
would need a shared flat from about mid of February on in Vienna preferred on the U6
(or at least U-Bahn near by).

I am a young professional
and part time student but still I do like party and going out (very social
fellow). However, I would expect to be my flat mate(s) clean and considered quiet
(no parties or similar during the week in the flat). The idea is a shared flat with
maximum 3 mates (incl. me) and if possible English or Spanish speaker to
maintain my language level very high as I am native German.

If someone is interested
to have me as a flat mate, just text me.

See you guys around

Alex
