Posted September 12th, 2012 - 4:01 am by from Longueuil, Canada (Permalink)
I plan to go back to Japan next year and I was wondering how much does it cost for a tourist to take the train from Tokyo to Hokkaido?

Also, where could I buy the tickets?

This is not an easy answer. I can't just say it costs around ¥15,000. There are many possible ways and things you might want to do.

However in saying all that the best solution for lots of train travel is the JR Pass http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en003.html

This let's you ride JR trains around the nation, the website has all the information you need.

If you are just going to ride the train from Tokyo to Sapporo and not get off and visit cities along the way then http://www.hyperdia.com/# is your friend.

you can check this website : http://www.hyperdia.com/en/
It will cost approx. 20,000 yens. (From Shinjuku to Sapporo)
You can buy the ticket at the station.

By plane, you can find One Way trips starting from 5000 yens
(AirDo, Skymark, Air Asia Japan, Jetstar...)
(From Haneda or Narita to Shin-Chitose)
