Busking in Chile
Posted February 15th, 2013 - 4:38 pm by from Santiago, Chile (Permalink)
Hello everyone. Ive been busking with my violin, playing Irish folk music for nearly a year now. I busked around Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador and bits of Colombia.
But i am going to leave here some information about busking in Chile, which is the country i have busked more.
In Santiago (capital), the good places you can busk is the "providencia" part of the city. On Pedro de Valdivia street with Providencia Street. Ricardo Lyon street and near the Costanera Mall. Playing in "centro" is not very easy. But still possible. Cops will make you leave sometimes at the "centro". But the forementioned places are just OK. If you like busking in pubs or places where one drink at an open area, you can do it in Barrio Bellavista. Its a place full of pubs, bars and restaurants. Playing there and passing the hat is awesome there. The other good place is at the Plaza Ñuñoa. Same thing like bellavista but way smaller.
Another good way to busk is to play in local buses. Those that run between Apoquindo, Providencia, Alameda and Irrarazaval are pretty fine!

Outside santiago, everywhere is fine, except viña del mar. You would need to get a permit to play there. Viña del mar is full of tourist, so i guess thats the main reason. Copiapo, Calama is nice. I got like 50 dollars just playing 2 hours in Copiapo ! Iquique is nice to, along the paseo de playa cavancha.

Hope this information is useful for those who wants to come to chile and busk around.
