Trying to find a job in Mountain View / Palo Alto for the summer
Posted March 29th, 2013 - 4:02 pm by from Munich, Germany (Permalink)
Hello everyone :)

I am a 21 year old girl from Munich where I'm studying French, Spanish and economics. I would like to spend my summer in Mountain View or Palo Alto and work there for some weeks. The best option would be a job where I can use my language skills! I was already looking in the Internet for some interesting offers but it's pretty difficult to find something nice!
Now I wanted to ask you couchsufers if anyone could suggest me something or has an idea where I could apply?

Thank you so much!

Hi Verena,

I won't be able to help you with a job but I wanted to let you know that Mountain View and Palo Alto are probably the most expensive areas to live. Even for a shared apartment, you will need 1400 USD or more.

Hey Jan,

The apartment is no problem. I already have an accomodation there! Just a good job is missing ;) Nevertheless, thank you for your answer!

craigslist.com will be your best bet for shared room or cheaper rental. I have seen apartments in sunnyvale which is right next to mountain view for as low at $1050/month. I just moved up here as well and from what people told me, try to stay out of anything that has the word East in it...haha Like, East Palo Alto or East San Jose. If you need a place to crash for couple of nights, send me a request, however I am not sure if santa clara will be too far out for you. I'm 10 mins west of san jose airport.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your offer but as I already mentioned I am not looking for an apartment.
But do you maybe also have any suggestions regarding finding a job for the summer?

I do not know of jobs for you, sorry. Have you looked at sites such as Monster.com or maybe an employment agency? I do not know what agency's are up here as I am new here myself, but you can go in with a resume to show what you are qualified for and what kind of job you are looking for. How it works is they negotiate the wage you will be making while you work and the agency will take a cut of your wage. For example, they find you a job that pays $12/hr. If you take the job, you will only make $10.50/hr and they take $1.50 commission on the hour. Not too bad of an option if its temporary. Good Luck

Mike,
Yes, i've already looked at Monster.com but couldn't find anything interesting. I might check the tip with the employment agency. Didn't hear about sth like this before! Thank you a lot! Your answer really helped me :)
Have a nice day!
