06/22/08 - What to bring to the potluck

This thread is where we discuss who will bring what, so we don't end up with 50 bottles of soda with no cups!

Hey guys, I have a gluten allergy so I will bring an entree that is gluten free. Thanks!

That sounds awesome. I was planning to make quinoa and vegetables in a spicy peanut sauce (vegan). I was also going to try to get a large amount of strawberries from the farmers market.

I posted this in the event description, but I want to repeat it here to make sure everyone sees it, as I think it would be helpful for many people:

Note: Since various people have various dietary preferences, I think it would be helpful if everyone filled out a little index card to put in front of their food. Indicate what the food is and whether it is suitable for a vegetarian, vegan, kosher jew, fat slob, etc. If you want to be a super dirty hippie, indicate the exact number of CO2 emissions that food is responsible and how many miles away, rounded to the nearest foot, it was produced ;)

The index card thing is a great idea!

As a vegan with both a wheat and soy allergy (who is also allergic to peanuts and canola oil!) potlucks can get pretty difficult. I'm not sure yet what I'll bring, but it will be meat, egg, dairy, wheat, soy, and peanut free - so those with crazy allergies such as myself need not worry! haha
Any suggestions?

I will provide the plates/cups/napkins/utensils and probably bring a dish of some sort. Something that doesn't need to be refrigerated, or doesn't need to be heated. I'll figure it out.

I'm thinking of fresh fruit, easy to transport and not having to keep cool or warm. And maybe a couple batches of brownies: some plain, some 'special' ... see you all Sunday!

Sunday if you are unsure of what to bring, just ring up Zach and he can tell you all what the potluck is short on. His number's on the event page.

Short notice, but I'll swing by with two CS guests, some bread, and hummus!

Next time I'll try to plan (and actually cook) something for specialer diets than mine. Rainbow and other places have been selling these wonderful gluten-free baked good from Azna (brownies, scones, mini cinammon buns).
