06/22/08 - Afterparty details
Posted June 5th, 2008 - 1:34 pm by from Oakland, United States (Permalink)
This is where we can discuss where to head to for an afterparty - whether it's going to be someone's place for a house party or maybe going to a club/bar/pub/some other cool location.

Thoughts?

How about the monk's kettle on 16th st? I have not been here yet but have heard good things about it and would like to check it out.

I say make this our default, unless someone else has another suggestion to consider?

Hi Everyone!
We're filming a documentary about a couchsurfer named Nik, and will be flying all over the country to capture the culture and community of CS, plus booking him gigs as an aspiring rock star.

We're wondering if we anyone can recommend a place for the afterparty where he can play for everyone after the potluck, and also where cameras are allowed?

How about at 4:00 p.m., Nik and any musicians who want to jam put on a show for all of the CSers who are interested? Anyone who doesn't mind being on film can sit closer to the action and those who don't want to be filmed can hang back.

Sounds pretty sweet to me!

And then maybe The Monk's Kettle on 16th Street can be where everyone migrates after the sun goes down?

Zach, what do you think? If this sounds good, you can edit the event page accordingly.

That actually may not be the best location, as it's on the small side and there isn't a whole lot of bar seating. I don't know how many people we'll have, but we're probably better off choosing a location that can hold more. Zeitgeist, I guess? It's only about a 15 minute walk from the park.

Zeitgeist has a rich, happy history with Couchsurfing, so that sounds like a plan! I just tweaked the event page with the info and a Google Map. Have fun!

I somewhat doubt that if you asked the staff at Zeitgeist would be cool with bringing in a whole camera crew (or with people performing, for that matter). However, with the cameras at least, on a Sunday afternoon the bartending staff might just be too hungover to notice :p

I think you misread the above posts, Richard. The filming thing is happening at the park, starting at 4:00. Going to Zeitgeist is what we're doing for the afterparty.

It's both, Derek.

This is what Peggy said:

I spoke to Peggy about it on the phone, which is what prompted me to post this reply above:

"How about at 4:00 p.m., Nik and any musicians who want to jam put on a show for all of the CSers who are interested? Anyone who doesn't mind being on film can sit closer to the action and those who don't want to be filmed can hang back."

Sorry, should have been more clear. Filming at potluck, not at Zeitgeist.
