Passing on the torch
Posted August 31st, 2008 - 5:54 am by from Oakland, United States (Permalink)
This month (September 2008) I will be unavailable to organize the 3rd Sunday Potluck, and possibly even future potlucks as well, as I am busy working with U.S. Ambassadors in the South to find couches for CSers displaced by Hurricane Gustav...

...in addition, I am putting together a massive 6-month CS sailing trip/sustainability tour that leaves in April of 2009, and there is much planning/organizing to be done in order to make "The Race to the Green" a success...

Besides, y'all know how to put these events together and it's your hometown, so you know how best to serve the community here! So now it's up to YOU to help keep the 3rd Sunday Potluck momentum going so that eventually these events happen in every city around the U.S. on the 3rd Sunday of the month! And one day...the world!

Whether you are an Ambassador or just a go-getter member, if you want to pick up the torch and run with it, by all means, please do! Check the two flagged threads, read the three group guidelines, recommend to all new members that they do the same and if you want an example page of how to put together a successful 3rd Sunday Potluck, here is the link for a near-perfect event invite for one that we did recently that had a great turnout...

You could copy and paste the info and change the date/location to fit your city. Just be careful not to let the 3rd Sunday Potlucks turn into 2nd Tuesday pub crawls, or else it wastes all of the momentum we have gathered (not to mention it alienates those who are too young to get into bars legally, those who are budget travelers, those who don't drink for moral/religious reasons and those who prefer home-made food in the park).

And be sure to remember the two most important truths: Many hands make for light work and if you build it, they will come!

Peace and health and have fun,

Derek

P.S. Every so often, I might post the word "bump" as a response to this thread to move it to the top to spur people to take action, but I won't be micro-managing from a distance like I have been the past year.
