Nithin, what kind of turnout did we have? Richard, how did the carpooling/public transit juggling go? Susan, how'd the recycling go?

I hear it was cold - hope all of you who braved the elements still had a good time regardless! Hopefully the weather will be in our favor next time!

Let's discuss in this thread what worked really well and what needs to be addressed for next time in order to make the 3rd Sunday Potluck a smashing success on May 18th!

The directions stuff worked out fine, although a few people called me lost from the visitor's center, which was about a mile away under the Bridge :)

I got a number of emails beforehand about directions, but I think the most useful thing was having my phone number on there so people could call it as they were actually wandering around lost. I probably got about 10 calls like that.

Overall I would say it was really successful. Mad props to everyone on the food creativity and variety!

This was my first meet up with the cs community. I really made connections with lots of other cs people. food was stellar the views of the bay great. Just a little cold which tired me out so I left too soon.
I think I will join the group researching and finding the next site, maybe a warmer park in the city to have the May one in.
I would have like to have better public transportation The bus service to Crisey field wasn't good enough.
Car pooling was a good idea but my sense of timing is too burdensome to inflict others with it.
Thanks Madhu for the pics. I don't consider my self photogenic But you have the gift of making us all look good.

Cheers to everyone who helped set up the potluck Saturday. It was my first CS event and a fun one -- good food and cool people. And thanks, Madhu, for the pics!
It was a bit difficult to find everyone at first -- maybe we should bring a flag or something next time to mark the CS spot. The location was as scenic as it was windy -- but that's spring/summer in San Francisco. If we had the event at somplace like Dolores Park, it might be easier for folks to get there on public transport.
I'll be out of town on May 18 -- but keep me posted on future events.

good fun--got to meet some people and try new foods, etc.

I agree--the wind and cold was taxing on the spirit and tired me out very much. And getting there was difficult as well. I might propose something more south, i.e., dolores park or even something more south of that that has better accessibility to public transportation.

hope to see everyone at the next one!

It was amazing - tons of people, great conversations, wonderful food..I had to leave early because I couldn't take the cold any longer, so I'm not sure how clean up went. I did leave my bio soap and sponge behind for Caitanya to bring back with her when she left. I walked around and put wine bottles and sapporo cans into a separate bag during the event. I put out a composting bag for food scraps but there were just too many people and it was too windy and I'm not much for shouting over all that so I am not sure if people knew to divide their scraps. I think it would be good for us to have 3 bins with some signs so people know what goes in each (i.e. what is compostable, what is recycleable, what is trash), but that costs money and we'd need someplace to store them between events. I don't really have room for that. If it wasn't so cold I would have stayed longer to organize the cleanup, but I just couldn't take the wind anymore. Def need a warmer location next time around! Bernal Hill? Dolores Park? Anyplace not right on the water...

Thanks..to those who organised and to those who brought the yummy food. I'm stil full!!

Weather is touch and go in San Francisco..you never know what's in store for us. Dolores park might be chilly in May ;-) as well but it is more accessible from Bart. Worth a shot.

I was one of the last ones there and just wanted to thank everyone for doing such a good job cleaning up. Other than a few stray pieces of trash, the place looked pretty good.

I had a great time and had some great conversations. Thank you to all of you that made me smile and laugh!!!

Hugs,
Kelly
