Looking for trekking buddies: Northern Drakensberg traverse late March 2013
Posted February 7th, 2013 - 3:46 pm by from Utrecht, Netherlands (Permalink)
Hello CS'ers,

The high traverse of the Northern Drakensberg is one of the most popular trekkings and listed in the National Geographic top 20 list of World's Best Hikes. It's on my list too!

I'm looking for like-minded people, who enjoy the outdoors, sleeping in tents, like to walk (nothing crazy, but walking for 5+ hours a day with a backpack), who have some level of physical fitness (you don't need to be an athlete) and prefer self-catered / self-guided trekking (could possibly be guided as well depending on what we decide together).

I have mountaineering experience in the European Alps and hiked in some of the National Parks in West USA.

My travel dates are somewhat flexible, preferable late March 2013.

If that sounds intriguing, please let me know.

That's on my list too. I have experience backpacking/climbing/etc. March I would have only 4 day periods to hike (Mar 21-24 or Mar 29-01), since I am working in Johannesburg. If that's not too off from what you're planning let's talk, I can be a little flexible. My email is caiokf@gmail.com

Cheers :)

Thanks for your response! I've just sent you an e-mail. Hope we can work out something.

I've hiked the Berg about 40 times - it is great. I am available the first 10 days of March for a 5-day trek. The end of March I'm leading a Himalaya trek so I have to rest before that. Hope we can do it.

Corlius, I've just sent you an e-mail.

General update:
It turns out that it will be a Grand Traverse, after further planning and reading it was too tempting not to. :)

We're planning for 8 to 10 days, dependent on decent weather of course, starting on March 19.

Hope you had a good trek! I'm looking to do it myself in late June. Do you have any tips or recommendations?
