Hi Alex,

bus:
1. shuttle bus leave from Park Station in Jo'burg CBD. Shouldn't be every expensive. But since I have never taken those, can't tell for sure. Probably takes more than 5 hours to get to Mababane.
2. shuttle bus directly from the airport to Mbabane. Leaves everyday around 12:00~13:00 from OR Tambo. Price R450~500. Arrives in town around 16:00~17:00. Need to be arranged beforehand.

driving: take N12 then N4 then N17. You come into Swaziland through the border post Oshoek/Ngwenya. Take MR3.

air:
daily flight from Jo'burg to Matsapha. Price: R800~1200, depending on how far ahead you get it.

Hope it helped!

Hi,

I just wanted to know what the driving conditions are between Jozi and Mbabane. Myself and fellow CSers I met travelling in Europe will be renting a car and touring SA.

How long should we cater for the drive and is it necessary to leave JHB really early?

Can't wait to see everything at home after being away for so long!

Hi Shiki,

Driving conditions are usually quite good. However, mind the people and especially the animals (cows!!!) crossing the freeway carelessly. It might be misty anytime of the year, so avoid arriving after sunset. The ride should take somewhere between 4-6 hours, again depending on the weather and traffic.

it's been a while that I left Swaziland, which means that I information that I am giving might be outdated.

Hope it helps!

I'd say Yao is right on. Takes us 6 hours from JNB to 30 minutes past Manzini. Road conditions are tarred and fair to good. Take note of the signs in South Africa that say, "No stopping" "High crime area" They're not kidding. Car jackings in those areas are not something to joke around with. But you should be totally fine.
Let us know if you need anything while in Swaziland. Or have more questions! Happy trails!

Hey Alex,
Here's the contact info for Swazi Trails. They will help you book a shuttle from Jo-burg airport to Mbabane, Swaziland. It costs 450Rand one way. We've taken them before, so I can vouch for their professionalism, promptness, safety, and comfort. A meal is included! I think they have shuttles leaving twice a day. One at 10:00 and one at 2:00pm, I believe.
Hope that helps!
