Try Ubuntu,
works ok on a little older computers and most stuff works out of the box plus it's a user-friendly interface.

If she likes it, maybe install it permanently because on a live CD running you'll have some speed limits set by the cd-drive and also some of the little ram, which seems to be in the machine, will be occupied by a ramdisk to store dynamic data during runtime.

Installing it permanently on the harddrive will eliminate these bottlenecks.
