Holi Festival 2013: When & Where?
Posted January 14th, 2013 - 1:21 pm by from Mosta, Malta (Permalink)
Dear Indian friends and CouchSurfers,

Together with a friend of mine, during the last week of March 2013, I will be travelling throughout different places in the beautiful region of Rajhastan. We plan to visit Jaipur and Udaipur for sure, and maybe we will also visit Bundi, Bikaner and/or Jodhpur. And we are really looking forward to attend the Holi Festival in one of these places, as we know this Festival is organised during the time we will be in the region.

At this stage, I will be really grateful if someone can help me out with the following two questions:

(1) Which is maybe the best city/place (from the ones I just mentioned above), to be in during the day/s when the Holi Festival is organised? By best I mean the most cheerful and colourful atmosphere, and best from a cultural and festive aspect. And finally;

(2) When is the exact date or dates when this year's Holi Festival in India, will be held? If there is more than just one day when the Holi Festival will be held, please let me know also which is the best day to attend then.

In brief, my questions are 'Where and When?!' :)

Thanks a lot guys, any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

We're looking so forward to attend your beautiful land. :)

Have a nice day everybody and all the best!!!

Peace....

Regards,

Kevin

Hello Hamant!

Thanks a lot for your reply my friend.

I have some more questions for you if you don't mind.

Where would you advise us to go in Jaipur (which area I mean) to see a more authentic festival, with less tourists, where we can see a festival made up of locals? but at the same time we want to be safe....and the participation of the Elephants in the festival, when will it be held? on the 27th or on the 28th or both? And is the Holi festival extended to more days in Jaipur or in any nearby cities?...And is there a place in Jaipur where the Holi Festival is celebrated in a temples like in Vrindavan? and finally, how would you compare the Holi Festval in Jaipur with that in Bikaner?

Thanks a lot and have a nice day!

Where would you advise us to go in Jaipur
Ans : Around Walled city (old city) or even you see the same sprit of celebration of holi anywhere in city.

Elephant festival will be held on 27th of march ( evening) at polo ground, Near Rambagh. On 28th of march people will play holi with colours. It is two days festival

is there a place in Jaipur where the Holi Festival is celebrated in a temples like in Vrindavan?

ANS: Check with Govind dev ji temple in Jaipur

how would you compare the Holi Festval in Jaipur with that in Bikaner?

Ans : I will for Jaipur

Once again, thanks a lot for your help, my friend Hemant. Your useful tips are greatly appreciated.

Yes we definitely are going to attend the Holi Festival in Jaipur. One thing which I am still confused about is whether the Holi Festival is celebrated on the 28th March as well. Because a friend of mine told me that the official dates for this year's Holi Festival will be 26th and 27th March 2013, with the main activities being on the 27th.

Thanks and have a nice day.

@ Google D_Singh - thanks for that recommendation.Actually we will be in Punjab region before the whole and we plan to be in Rajasthan region during the Holi Festival days. But you never know, might end up there during the Holi - so which place you recommend as being best to be in during Holi? Anandpur Sahib only?

have a nice day

@ Hemant - Thanks very much for your information about Holi in Jaipur. May I ask you one more question if you don't mind: Which city between Jaipur, Pushkar and Jodhpur you will chose for the 'best' Holi festival experience? and one final question, what about the safety? is it safe for me and my friend (2 males), to go out in public in the streets together with all the locals celebrating Holi? because I heard there will be many crazy things going on in the streets? Is Jaipur safe enough, or you will rather consider another smaller city but maybe safer considering we are not Indians. Thanks and have a nice day.

@ Tanveer - sorry my friend, but this is a Group dedicated to those travelling [u]to India and not Pakistan. In fact my original Topic is about the Holi Festival in India only. Thus, would you be so kind to remove your reply and place it in a more adequate Group, please. I m sure it's a very informative post if you place it in the correct place, but can be very misleading in the CS India Group. PLEASE REMOVE IT!

Good Morning Kevin,

As you previously mention that you want to play Holi with Locasl and less tourists. Pushkar is a small town with full of tourists .

Between Jaipur and Jodhpur I will recommended for Jaipur , However direction is yours.

what about the safety : for safety I suggest you to choose the Posh area of city. As a male tourist you would not face any problem however if you think there is anything wrong while playing holi you can take help from local people or Police . So don’t bother so much about security and enjoy the festival.

Please write to if you need any more information.
