Posted January 18th, 2013 - 11:07 am by from Mosta, Malta (Permalink)
How much in Indian rupees, should a Taxi costs to take me and a friend of mine + our two backpacks, from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to Chuna Mandi - Pahar Ganj disctrict in Delhi, Old Centre?

If not a taxi, would you recommend any kind of Public transport which is quite efficient from Airport to Chuna Mandi - Pahar Ganj district? maybe buses, etc.? and how much will that cost?

Thanks guys!!!

You can take the Metro expressway from terminal 3 ( thats the international terminal, so your flight would land there ). It goes to Paharganj,Ajmeri Gate. I think it should cost no more than Rs 100/person.

Thanks a lot for your replies Vani & Amit!

@ Vani - I think your solution is the most ideal in our case. Thanks for informing me about this Delhi Police pre-paid taxi counter inside the airport. We will use that. I think it's very safe considering it's something official. Can you please give me an idea, on how much will the Delhi Police pre-paid taxi approximately cost, from the Delhi's International Airport to Chuna Mandi - Pahar Ganj disctrict in Delhi, near the Delhi main train station? Thanks a lot for your advice and for the tip you told me about the loading of the luggage. It's good to know, thanks alot.

@ Amit - Your option is also a very good one. Thanks also for that Amit. However in our case, I realised, that if we opt for that means of transmit, we'll have to walk about 25minutes from the Metro stop to our Hotel which is situated near the Main Trains Station in Delhi exactly in the Pahar Ganj disctrict. And considering we will be coming from quite a long and very tiring trip, I'm afraid we'll better use the Delhi Police pre-paid taxi, which Vani suggested. But I will also surely use it on other occasions, during my stay in Delhi!

Thanks and have a nice day Vani & Amit :)

Ajmeri gate is the other side of pahargunj station which means, you just have to take the bridge and cross this side..takes 2 mins. However, discretion is yours ! Have a safe stay !

Thanks Amit. We are considering that option as well because it's cheap and quite efficient. The think is as I told you, according to google maps, we have to walk approximately 30 minutes to reach our hotel with the backpacks and would liek to avoid that immediately after our very long trip.

Thanks a lot!!!

Np Kevin...

I've never taken a cab to that area from the airport but my guess is, between 600-700 rs for the cab for that distance cause its almost 15 km from the airport... being the two of you, it would come out not more than 300-350 per person which is arrite after a long n tiring flight...

I paid 250 for a cab from airport to dhaula kuan which is about 6 km from airport.

hope that helps to get an idea

hello - if the metro is running again (it should by now) its the best way to go to pahar ganj, bcs. it stops just across the street where you find all the guesthouses and shops and everything and it costs i think 80 rps a person. otherwise just take a pre-paid taxi - this is about 400 rps. if you ask normal taxis waiting outside they all take at least 600 rps. for the way back fro pahar ganc to the airport you can get the taxi for 300 rps. :) so good luck and have lots of fun and enjoy beautiful india - i love it ;)

Good morning from Malta guys! :))

@ Christa, Shubham & Vijay - Thanks a lot for your input dear CS
friends. Both the prepaid taxi and the metro, are very good options.
Will definitely use both during our stay in Delhi. Your input've been
really helpful.

Can I ask just one more thing pls?...the prepaid taxis can only be taken
from the airport to the city and vice versa, or they can even be taken
from any part of the city to any other part and not necessarily to and
from the airport? If yes, where are the Prepaid Taxis ticketing booths
normally situated? near, Train Stations, metro stops, etc? And is it
possible to find Prepaid Taxis in the Rajasthan region as well?

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hey Kevin,

The Delhi Police pre paid cabs provide services only FROM the airport, not TO the airport. So, when you want to order a cab to get to the airport, you will hve to ring private companies like the ones mentioned by Vijay in the above message. The place where you will be staying should be able to get sme taxis arranged for you.

Also, when you are leaving the airport to get to pahar ganj, along with delhi police pre paid taxi booth, is a private taxi hire booth too...you can save their number or speak to them about booking a cab to come back to airport towards the end of ur visit,

Both options are feasible.

hello again,
you find pre-paid taxis on most trainstations. most time i took a rikscha, because i like it better and they are even cheaper. after a while you find out how much is a fair price and then its easy. for goiing back to the airport from delhi they offer taxis in the hotels for 400 rps - i always went outside and asked any rikscha-driver the day before and i told them i want to got to the airport and i pay 300 rps. every time the 1st one i asked agreed. they picked me up at my hotel next morning, sometimes with a taxi, sometimes with rikscha :) it always worked perfectly and i paid 300 rps every time ;)
so have a great time
