Shiva mantras
Posted February 12th, 2013 - 3:55 am by from Knoxville, United States (Permalink)
I'm very attracted to his mantras, I was wondering if someone could help me by naming a few of his mantras, the purpose of them, and a good artist that sings the songs so I can begin to learn. :) Shiva came into my life when I dedicated myself to yoga first with Om Namah Shivaya and most recently with Maha Mrityunjaya. Please enlighten me of his others. :)

Namaste,
Donovan

That is great.I am in Shiv and shiva is in me thats what I believe in.I see ihim in everything. He is in every living being.I have tons of Shiva Mantra and he is tattooed on my arm too.Regarding Mantra I would like to tell you that Om is the origin of every Mantra and without Om no mantra is completed.Om is the biggest mantra and you collect you mind or centralisation of your brain you say Om and started you meditation.Om namoh Shivay to all the Shiva bhaktas of this world and Happy Shivratri in Advance.
Kalyug mein mooaj karge Shiva ki Fooaj
Shiva Bhakths will never have any problems even in worse situations.
Boom Shanker and har har mahadev
Shiva Power flows in everyone, every second, every minute every day and every hour.

i can send you a whole list of shiva mantras, bhajans and strotas but it depends what you like...be free with bhajans,a bit careful with strotas and very careful with mantras...lets start with shiv tandav strotam to feel a bit delighted and energetic :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ-WoPkxpTA

furthermore, the best way is to decide what u like, personally i hate bhajans as they are useless..what is the philosophy you are trying to stick to?you in general like shiva or you want to move to a specific theory or philosophy focusing shiva...cause shiva can be understood in main 3 different forms..one is inside you,one is outside you and one is a metaphysical form...so you should first decide which type of shiva do you want to take in your life n so on :)...

Please do!

Well, personally I've been more focused on the Shiva inside and the metaphysical form. A part of me really feels that Shiva is watching over me. I repeat Om Namah Shivaya often I use the Krishna Das version because it is simply magical. I still have a lot to learn about Shiva, Do you know what books I can read to learn more about him in general?

Namaste,
Donovan

hi donovan
u can read 14th and 16th chapter of yajur ved which has the best combination of mantras...you can recite it if you want...for being shiva in metaphysical form inside you then you may want to focus more on yoga and meditation because you will have the feeling of "aham bhramasmi" meaning i am the divine flame....
well the most significant book is shiv maha puran but its just a collection of stories and may not make much sense i think...there are some works by some nice philosophers but it focuses more on philosophy of self not necessarily shiva but they focus on shiv...sadly most of the material i know is in hindi or sanskrit...and im not sure if you are familier with it...there is a very nice website which has most of the material in sanskrit and translated english (not exact but still you get the idea) you can check it out at http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/index.htm it also has audio i think...most of the material focusing on shiva in you is based on the shiv (you and soul) shakti (power or energy) and it goes in that direction....it is impossible to explain it on public post etc....
furthermore,my opinions are based on several different philosophies so i dont know what exact direction to give...if you can ask specific questions i can answer them with precision.

well, I am a yogi and i meditate everyday. how should I approach Shiva in meditation? I tend to be playful with my yoga when I dedicate it to shiva.
Unfornatley I don't understand much Sanskrit or Hindu. I've just been learning the mantras and decoding them. Thank you for the website I'll look at it now. Nish could you send me a message and we can have a more in depth conversation about these things?
