Internet connection in ladakh
Posted September 14th, 2012 - 6:59 am by from Zurich, Switzerland (Permalink)

I hate to be one of those guys but I am travelling to October near the end of October and might need to login at work from time to time. In this time I would require failry decent internet connection to be effective.

I will be in Leh for a little while and then would probably be heading off to a monsatery. I want to know what are my internet options.

1. Does Tata Photon/Reliance netconnect work in Leh?
2. What about the rest of ladakh?
3. Would internet cafes be open at that time of the year?

Any help in this regard would be deeply appreciated.

1) No
2) No
3) They would be, but not many. End of october isnt really touristy time for the city.

The whole state of J&K has restriction on using pre-paid phones. You can only use couple of post paid connections (i know BSNL and aircel work for sure). So therefore your tata photon and reliance cannot work.

If you are carrying your laptop, there are couple of cyber cafes that provide wifi services (i forgot the street, but there is a famous restro called lamayuru). The internet though, isnt that fast.
