Music for Hurricane Distribution Sites
Hi all, I've started a group on my facebook page by the name above. Let me explain: I've been convinced as I watch on TV what goes on at the food and supply distribution sites on S.I., Rockaways, and other areas, that some music in the background would be a soothing commodity and not in the way. On Thanksgiving I went to Arverne in the Rockaways to try it out - alone, because no one was free to go with me. I sat in an alcove between serving point and dining room, and just played jazz standards, show tunes - melodies, on flute, no accompaniment. The sound was beautiful and the site was quiet enough (it wasn't one of the hugely busy ones) so I didn't need amplification. Some said they found it calming. I want to develop this in more areas and sites. If you're interested and are on FB, please friend me and let me know you're from CS. I would only ask that since I've never worked with any CS musicians, that we get together in advance for a quick run-down. My fields are jazz standards (Cole Porter, Gershiwn, Arlen, Ellington more than Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and Miles) and classical (flute and guitar, any chamber formation). I play flute and sax. If several are not on FB, we could certainly form a sub-group for the same purpose here. The volunteering is going to be needed for many months to come. And my number is 917 667 5331. By the way I definitely don't have to lead this effort. Am just trying to spread the idea. Feedback welcome. Thanks.
