Bargain Film Club, OPENING NIGHT PART 2, showing 'City of God'.

Organized by Dave S Fineberg
Not only are we showing 'City of God' on Sunday July 7th for the BARGAIN price of just £3, there will also be a FREE PRIZE DRAW for a DVD copy of 'City of Men'. On entry, each person will get a raffle ticket. If you buy a drink or snack ($5 specials on beers, wine & popcorn), you will also get an extra raffle ticket. The draw will take place after the film finishes.

'City of Men' is often cited as a spin-off of the film 'City of God'; City of Men is a less violent and more light-hearted programme. However, the two do share some common aspects: the directors, some of the actors, and the setting of the Brazilian favela with its background of gangsters and poverty. The DVD has seasons 1 & 2. There is also a film adaptation of the series, also called City of Men, released in 2007.

After some incredible online voting for which film to show, two films came out NECK AND NECK with 33% of the votes each. So, we are splitting the opening night into TWO opening nights! June 27th will show Moon, and a week later on Sunday July 7th, we will show City of God.

Doors will open at 4pm, the film will start at 4:30pm, and we'll stay open after the film so people can chat, mingle, and grab a drink! Entry is £3, the venue is Dane Certificate's Magic Tricks, Gags and Theatre.

A shocking and disturbing, but always compelling look at life in the slums of Rio de Janiero. Two boys growing up in a violent neighbourhood take different paths: one becomes a photographer, the other a drug dealer.
