Speak Easy Language Tandem Event

Organized by Simon Williams
Deutsch et französisch unten:-)

Language Exchange Event - Every Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm

In the café there are different tables where you can speak different languages. We put a flag of the country that the language is originally coming from on the table, which is a sign that if you decide to sit at this particular table you will be asked to speak the language that rules there. People sitting at a particular table decide on their own about the topic of conversations and also how long they plan to stay there, before they move to another table. The atmosphere is totally relaxed, non-formal and supportive. During our meetings we will have at least one native speaker at each table, which is very helpful as he or she can give some advice how to use the language, some expressions or phrases. It is also interesting to listen to native speakers, their accent, vocabulary and constructions of sentences that they use.

----------------------------------------------------

Since there are some who must work during these proposed hours, might it be best if we could adjust the times to accommodate our friends who wish to attend but cannot due to work obligations? I myself have a flexible schedule so it wouldn't be a problem for me at all.

Hey guys. For those who can not make the Tuesday hours... From April 24th i will be starting Language Tandem Events on Wednesday evenings from 18hr. Usually on the Tuesdays some people stay after 19hr too. If there is more demand then the Tuesday event could eventually be extended to an offical later finish.

Hello Uwe. Are you the CS police? I don't make a single cent from this activity and i don't earn any money from this bar. Best to you...

Hello Martin, you are right it is of course ok to ask about it:-) I am new in Berlin since January and i have participated in some other couchsurfing activities even on Monday at the Salsa event and i have also hosted a few surfers here too when i had a space.
Tandem is often on a one to one basis but i think this idea is good because it brings many people together who can meet one another with a common thread. It could also take place in other venues and maybe it will and can. I think it would be great if this kind of tandem event could happen in many places on different days.
At the tandem events that have passed i offered free cakes that i baked myself among other snacks. I have created many events not just this one. When i first started doing this event 8 people showed up, i did not expect it to become this popular. But i think it is a good thing that it is popular and if a venue benefits from it regardless of where it is i think that is good too.

    Hey Simon,

Thanks for the event last Tuesday, it really put into perspective how hard I need to work to have any chance of learning a new language.

I would recommend this event to people who are actually pretty good at their languages though. I mainly spoke English because that was my french was just poor. It was lovely to meet people for a chat though.

Keep up the good work Simon.

    Simon,

Thanks very much for organizing this event. I attended on Tuesday and will continue to attend on a regular basis. Not only was it very practical for the practice of my non-native languages, but I also met many very interesting people. To be honest I wouldn't care even if someone were making a small profit from these meetings because they are enjoyable and very useful to anyone wishing to improve their languages and/or meet new people from other cultures. Ignore the cynics and keep doing what you are doing because it is much appreciated.

Alexandra, I am sure there will be plenty of English speakers who would be glad to work with you. If I make it, I will be glad to work with you also.
