You've been to the Lower East Side.... but have you experienced the history and community of the neighborhood?
The Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (MoRUS) is a new museum dedicated to preserving the history and promoting the scholarship of grassroots urban space activism. Inside our volunteer-run museum you'll find a wealth of interesting information and archives about this eclectic vibrant neighborhood, gentrification and community resilience!
Every Sunday local activists lead a walking tour of the legendary tenement buildings, Tompkins Square Park and vibrant community gardens! Your guides will be local activists with intimate knowledge about the neighborhood, movements, and culture. These grassroots tours offer an intimate glance that cannot be experienced through a guide book tour...
All tours start at 3pm at the museum at 155 Ave C and cost $20. The museum is non-profit and all proceeds and donations go back towards museum rent and community projects that MoRUS engages in. However the museum itself is FREE, with a great community board and published material about the community (and NYC generally) inside.
