• Hiho amazing CS Istanbul community! (I am giving you a lot of laurels already, but i am sure you are worth it ;p)

Currently, I am studying in the Netherlands, Maastricht. Buuuut, I will come to Istanbul this August (yeah, the German is planning ahead^^) and stay until January.
I will come as one of the Erasmus students (University of Yeditepe). BUT i dont want to end up as most of the Erasmus students. Yes, i want to party, NO, I don't only want to hang around with Erasmus students, Yes, I want to learn Turkish, make Turkish friends, get a taste of the culture and the city! :)

    So, whats my plan?
I dont want to live on Yeditepe campus. I would like to live in the heart of Istanbul, where everything goes and flies around :). I would like to live in a shared flat with, at best, some Turks.
So, before I find myself in Istanbul, wondering where the city center lies, and which parts of the city are the "cool" ones.. I thought about asking you locals! Maybe one of you likes to meet and run around with me through the city in my first days, maybe you know cool people to share a flat with, maybe you know a great offer.. ? :)
I know i can trust into the CS community.. ;)

    So, on the other side:
If anybody of you comes (or knows somebody who comes) along the netherlands/maastricht, until then, you are more than welcome to meet me/surf my couch, get my city introduced etc. So we can warm up then already.. ;)

hope i havent talked/bothered you too much and get some nice response :)

Sweet regards from the German out of The Netherlands ;)

    Felix :)

    Hey Felix,
Yeditepe campus is on the asian side, and on the asian side the city center is I would say Kadikoy. I would recommend you to live in Kadikoy because it will be easier for you to get to class everyday, but also it will be easy to get to other areas of Istanbul such as the real center taksim.

but if you will take classes only one or two days a week and it doesnt matter for you to deal with getting to your university than I would recommend living in Taksim because it is quite the center of the city.

To find apartments in both areas check out craigslist.com, and join erasmus student network on facebook there are lots of ads for exchange students. Also use Sahibinden.com buuut you may beed some Turkish to get through the clutter as all the nonsite text will be in turkish such as the apartment descriptions and etc.
Well anyway just check them all out and decide which one you like best.

Otherwise, I hope you have fun in Turkey buddy. Dont hesistate to let me know if you have any questions....
