Hi Jason, sorry this doesn't answer your question but I will also need to get a visa when in HK from the 1st April, I have a British passport, is it easy to find info and get it done? Are you getting visa for China? I will be there from the 8th April to 5th March if you are around still?

Well I guess it depends on what type of visa you plan on getting. I want a business visa but my company did not provide me with proper paper work so there is no way that's happening for me because I have already been in China for a year and I need a letter of invitation to get a new one. So now I am stuck here for the weekend waiting for Monday because the visa must be done on a work day. If you just want a tourist visa you can go to any travel agency and get one. YOu can pay more money for a rush service or else wait three to four days. It just takes money and time. Hong Kong is very expensive and the hotels/hostels often book up fast. Try to get soemthing arranged.
There is a more official visa office you can try. Chinese visa office
7/fl, lower block, china resources building
    26Harbour road
    Wanchai, Hong Kong
    telephone 3413-23000 9am-12noon/2pm-5pm (mon-fri)
This place government ran and maybe less money but they were only going to give me 30 days maximum a travel agent i found can get me six months.
