• Heeey everybody, so as you can see im looking for a loft or an apartment to share with my brother from early september to late december but every single website ive visited, shows me apartments for over two thousand dollars a month, which is not what we would call cheap. We were also thinking we could get a roommate, any suggestions?

    Hi Agustin,

The strategy that most people use is to stay in a hostel or use AirBnB (http://www.airbnb.com) to find a room for several days while you look for something for the rest of your time here. It really is much easier to find a place to stay for 6 months when you are already here.

We have a group here on Couchsurfing where you can read about and post requests for roommates and rooms to rent in NYC: https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/o/group/7084

Once you are here, you can also try using Craigslist: http://newyork.craigslist.com
Do not try to rent an apartment or a room from Craigslist if you are not here in NYC, there are too many dishonest people who will try to steal your money.

If you feel that you have to live in sure to consider apartments in Harlem and Washington Heights. However, the subway (metro) system here is very good, so you should also consider apartments in Brooklyn and Queens. You will be much more likely to find affordable apartments in those locations.
