• Hi everyone,

I have a number of somewhat uneducated questions which I hope someone could be so kind as to enlighten me with the correct answers.

I'll be heading to Japan in April and intend to bring my mobile (cell) phone with me. I would like to know:

    1. Would it work in Japan?
    2. Am I able to purchase a prepaid SIM to use with this phone?

Also, I have a JR Pass which I know would enable me to travel anywhere in Japan on the JR Line. However, would this ticket:

    1. Enable me to travel on any of the local rail lines in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka?
    2. If not, on which specific lines is the JR Pass valid for travel?

    Thanks.

    : )

    Dear Daniel,

Don't count on the pre-paid SIM-card to work. My phone is less than a month old and a newer model than yours and the SIM-card was not compatible! Instead I recommend renting a portable Wi-Fi device. It's my first stay here and I couldn't have found anything if I didn't have constant access to the Wi-Fi.

Before departing you can.purchase JR Passes, for entire Japan, either 7, 14 or 21 days which allows you to travel on all train lines ( few exceptions) whenever you want. It's only for non-japanese people.

Hope it was some small help :-)

    Hi Mary

Did you try to get the Softbank pre paid SIM card? Because some people say it's working.
Could you please let me know the wi-fi portable device company you used?
I plan to buy the latest Samsung abroad but I have no idea of which companies here provides compatible services or not.

    Thanks
