About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Do as much, see as much as I can while I am still alive and young.

ABOUT ME

HELLO RANDOM PERSON READING MY PROFILE!

One of the things I love to do best is travelling! Seeing the world with it's different cultures and different people makes me really happy!

And that's probably why I am a cabin crew. Haha!

Life is too short to spend it just in one country.

I majored my studies in Filming, Photography and Video Editing so it's also my passion to capture my experiences overseas!

I'm a really fun, easy going person who loves to enjoy life. I hate being tied down.

I am also a really thrifty person so I do know the cheapest and most affordable places to go to eat/party/chill or simple have a good time here in expensive Singapore!

Singapore is currently the MOST expensive city in the world, and you have to watch out as practically EVERY attraction intends to suck your money away but heyyy, hang out with a local like me and I'll show you the best places to go in Singapore.

So if that sounds really awesome to you, do drop me a request and spend some time with me! I would love to meet you!

I'm super friendly and NEVER feel awkward, so pleaseeeee don't worry, you will never feel awkward around me too!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is so unpredictable. So before the world ends, live your life to the fullest. See and do whatever you can while you are vibrant and young.

When you are old and wrinkled, you won't look back at the nights you spent sleeping. It's the awesome nights spent out with friends that you'll remember.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The main tourist attractions in Singapore are really expensive.. BUT if you are travelling on a budget and would like to get around FREE/CHEAP and see the heart of Singapore (not just it's famous overrated tourist spots), it's cultures, lifestyles and the way that we get about, I have lived in Singapore all my life so I would love to show you around!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've first been introduced to CouchSurfing in February 2013. Since then I've easily hosted over 100 surfers. From Guatemala to Sweden, from Serbia to New Zealand, from Argentina to Hungary. You name it.

I'm quite an active member on the Last Minute Couchsurf Requests Group in Singapore.

The longest consecutive hosting period was 3 weeks, where I was constantly hosting people every single day and night. My parents nearly flipped. Hahaha

The most I nearly hosted was 5 people cramped up in my room chilling as a result of a couple missing their plane and desperately needing a place for the night. Again, my parents nearly flipped.

I never regretted it once. I may jolly well be one of the youngest hosts in the CS Community but hey, age is only a number.

I live in the district of Tampines with my family!

That is the East heartland of Singapore! It's 30 minutes away from town by train/bus and only 15 minutes away from Changi Airport by bus/train.

Tampines is the largest residential district in Singapore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampines)

So if you would like to see our local Singaporean life, THIS is as local as it gets. Prices for food/drinks etc around these Heartland areas are also catered to the locals = meaning wayyyyyy cheaper

Taxi's are really expensive and not worth to take simply because public transport can literally take you to almost every part of Singapore

There is plenty of things to do on your trip in Singapore! And the best part is that there is time to do almost EVERYTHING simply because the country is so darn small that traveling is NEVER an issue!

My room is pretty quaint and cosy with my own sofa set, a king-sized bed and spare single mattress. I take lots of pride in my room and I really love it to bits.

I don't mind sleeping on my couch/single mattress instead so you can sleep on my bed (but please don't dirty it yeah?)

I am a social smoker so I don't mind smoking in my room. I could always smoke with you ;)

IMPORTANT: READ THIS BEFORE SENDING ME A REQUEST PLEASE!!!

**********************************************************************

1) These days I'm hardly on CS, as such, I may not reply or see your requests.

So if you would like me to host you, instead of sending me a CS request, ADD ME on facebook and drop me a facebook message!

My account is www.facebook.com/dominic.phua.1 :)

2) Make it a personalized message. Like how you would write to a friend. After all, we are all friends aren't we? Just that we do not know it yet. Do read through my profile to try and understand the kind of person I am.

3) Due to my busy flying roster as a cabin crew, I may not be able to reply in time, although I promise I will do so whenever I can

4) Somedays I may be tired from those crazy turnaround / longhaul flights, so I may not be able to take you out. Would appreciate if you could be understanding about that. I will still try my best though.

5) SEND ME A REQUEST AT LEAST 1 WEEK IN ADVANCE. So I can check my flight roster and see if I will be in Singapore. HOWEVER if you send me a request at the last minute, unless it falls on my off-day, chances are that I wont be able to host you. Still, it's worth a shot ain't it.

5) I may not be able to host you for more than 2 nights, depending on my flight schedule. But then again, 2 nights is more than enough to spend in Singapore....

6) My home isn't a free hostel and that's not the intention of CS. It's an exchange of cultures, a give and take whereby both parties benefit. So do come with this mindset. So that this experience can be memorable for both of us.

7) Have fun and enjoy yourself!

BACKGROUND INFO:

*****************************************************************************************

Here's some background info :) It's rare to find a local Singaporean CS host. Most hosts ,if you realize, on the Singapore CS page are foreigners living and working here. The reason why most of my fellow countrymen cannot host is because:

1)Singapore is the most expensive city in the world (the average apartment costs 500,000 USD)

2)Most local CS-ers are in their early/late 20s.

3) We cannot afford our own homes thus most still live with their parents.

4) Asian parents are ,well, typical conservative Asian parents who don't take to well to the idea of CS.

5) Most local Singaporeans would be all for the idea of hanging out or showing you around, but being hosted by one? It's quite hard to find one honestly.

And there you go. So do forgive us Singaporeans if it's difficult to find a local host in Singapore! We do try our best!

Personally, my parents are open to the idea of CS (after some persuasion...... mmm...) So now they allow me to host! So I host whenever I can! I love hosting and surfing! (Well, to be honest, I love hosting more. I believe its more blessed to give than to receive.)
