About Me

CURRENT MISSION

'The World through Totems' - a collaborative project of anthropology and art

ABOUT ME

I will be traveling with my partner and collaborator, Janaína, this March through Central America working a new collaborative project called 'The World through Totems' - a art project derived from the geographic and anthropological history of a selected area.

I try my best to live simply. Most of the time with just the few things I am able to carry on my back. By letting go of material weights and attempting to 'posses' nothing - I find that my smile grows lighter and truer every day.

Current quote I'm living through: (paraphrased) "Don't be afraid to make mistakes, or become discouraged by your failures. All the greatest successes in this world have grown out of the knowledge gained from experiencing these mistakes... that in fact mistakes and failures are an essential part of our evolution, both as individuals and as the human race as a whole."

- the old master
(sorry can't remember the author of this one)

If you want to find out about me(us), send me(us) an e-mail (i'm also a big fan of hand/type written letters), I always enjoy opening a new correspondence, though my current situation/location can often cause a delayed response. You can also feel free to leave a comment on my web page.

-(shared from RucksackArtist.com)-
My art, my writing, my travels and every moment I can be present in - these have become a practice to evolving my own perspective - with the intent that through the creation of my work these insights are then shared.

PHILOSOPHY

"I create to find an inner calm, this gives me insight into the present so that I can better comprehend other's perspectives, this in turn allows me to make better decisions, with good decisions I find satisfaction - the stronghold of happiness".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Will be traveling through Mexico and central America (possibly also some of the southwest states in the US) for the next several months working on a new Collaborative anthropology and art project with Jana. Hoping to gain entrance to an artist residency program in Ireland this fall.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CouchSurfing has given me the ability to go from taking one day at a time, to one hour at a time - knowing I am never far from a potential friend, or unforgettable experience.

Interests

I hike, I meditate, I practice yoga, I run, and very frequently I find myself watching the rain from under the fly of a tent - these things give me motivation to write, to draw, to take pictures, and to continually keep myself in motion.

Music, Movies, and Books

always re-reading the "classics" - those well known and those less, and always open to new suggestions.

(working a thesis based on archetypes within Borges/Baudrillard/Lau Tzu works)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'll always remember turning to see the red-gold sunrise as it limped over the eastern mountains just as we broke tree line on our hike to the summit of Longs Peak - great experience & great company.

Sitting in a coffee shop somewhere north of Rio with a book half-way-read, a cup of café, and some aimless rantings I'd entered into a little notebook, realizing - that yes, I had made some poor decisions recently and was now a bit bewildered, ???,000's miles from home and on my own - yet at the same time I was aware that despite all of this, I had gained something fundamental - an understanding that no matter what experiences I was/am to face, I can always gain from them a greater understanding of the reality/truth around me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Always happy to share what knowledge i have of, art, writing, travel and the wilds.

Jana and I are in the process of developing a form of drawing style, designed to work specifically in helping people identify an cope with subconscious/suppressed stresses and emotions. If your interested in learning more let us know!! :-)
