About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To expand my knowledge of other cultures, languages and meet interesting people - form new friendships and show off this fantastic area where I live

ABOUT ME

As a travel bug, my wings are still unfolding. My trips to Europe, Iceland and the US have only whetted my appetite!

My email is yourgogirl and that I am. I love my job as a reporter which can see me covering anything from boring council proceedings, devastating fires, volunteering to be hoisted to the top of a new aerial ladder wearing full fireman's gear, shadowing a psychic through a haunted house, writing a story about a rescue at sea, or the latest fundraiser (ugh).

Some of my more exciting assignments include sailing across the Gulf of Maine aboard an 80-foot yacht, flying in the Cormorant chopper and a Huey, driving a race car around the track as fast as I dared, a five-hour tour on an oil rig, and falling 12,500 feet from the sky while strapped to a Canadian Forces Skyhawk.

PHILOSOPHY

Money can't buy everything, but it's certainly not the root of all evil. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. Try like hell not to hurt other people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm keen to show people the country I live in and introduce them to my friends and family (a crazy, fun bunch).
Travel and immersing oneself in local customs, food and cultures is the best form of education in the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hmmmm... I've sort of had a floating couch-surfing kind of experience. Spent a leg of a journey with a kindred spirit aboard his 20-foot riverboat for a week. Slept in a sleeping bag on a thin cushion on the floor of his vessel. Does that count? :-)
UPDATED Aug. 2008 - Surfed in Portland and Boston for two nights each. The experience made me all the more passionate about the project!
Sept/Oct 2010 - Spent two weeks touring the British Isles, couchsurfing every night except one where I spoiled myself in a castle hotel. Flew into London, caught a train to Cornwall, rented a car and drove to Wales, Northern Scotland, the Isle of Skye, turned the car in, caught the ferry to N. Ireland, picked up another car, drove to Connemara and flew home from Dublin. AMAZING experience and AWESOME hosts.
2011 UPDATED: Flew to Los Angeles, rented a red Mustang convertible and drove up through Big Sur to San Francisco. Stayed with three different couchsurfing hosts and fell in love with the couchsurfing project all over again.
September 2012 - St. Pierre et Miquelon - couchsurfed for three nights, stayed last night at Nuits St. Pierre. Don't miss Miquelon!
2013 - Iceland - camped in a tent and drove the Ring Road except for one night surfing on Hrisey Island.

Interests

Love music (most all types), reading, flying, hiking, biking, swimming, sailing (anything to do with the ocean as in a past life I was a mermaid). Dancing interpretively - just GOTTA move to the beat when I hear certain songs. New technology (bit of a 'puter nut).

Great meals, good wine, Old Sam and pepsi, wise seniors & wise youngsters. Those with a song in their heart and a gentle soul. Good energy. Sunshine. Storms.
THE OCEAN.

Music, Movies, and Books

oh man... too many to list. I'm willing to listen to, watch, or read anything once.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being on board a Hercules when the SARtechs opened the hatch 20 feet away. We were skudding along on top of the clouds with the contrails curling off the wingtips. I thought to myself - this is what heaven looks like.
