ABOUT ME

I think my best friend would say that I'm an introvert (compared to her, at least). I'm definitely quite reserved at first, but then I really open up the moment I meet a very interesting and honest individual. I can immerse myself in a plethora of conversations and I enjoy soaking in information from others like a sponge. I speak a few languages and am learning a few more. Humour is my soft-spot, so I'm always looking out to make friends on my travels with people who can tickle me :) (Not literally though, I hate that).

PHILOSOPHY

If I've learnt one thing in the past that keeps getting reinforced everyday, it's that time waits for no one. The best time to live, is right now.

Interests

Languages and Music. I am an English Language teacher and have found myself fascinated with languages from a young age. I was already able to speak English and Tamil fluently before picking up Hindi a few years ago during my time as an Undergrad. I then went on to learn Spanish, and am now taking professional lessons in Portuguese from a Brazilian living in Singapore.
I also love meeting new people from abroad who stop over in Singapore for a few days or who choose Singapore as a career destination for a few years. It's a pleasure to exchange ideas and words that have transcended borders and crossed oceans, with amazing like-minded people.
Playing the piano is another past-time of mine, and I try to squeeze in as many hours as I can on it during my free time.

I enjoy the occasional drink and a good party when I need to relax, but it isn't central to my life anymore.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing things I've seen have all been from my travels. I once met a polyglot (speaker of multiple languages) in Prague who was holding a conversation with a Turk, a Finn and a Spaniard simultaneously. He then turned to the Czech waitress and ordered a meal for everyone in fluent Czech. It was unbelievable, so a friend and I approached him at the end of our meal and asked him how many languages he spoke and how his passion developed. It turned out that both his parents were Professors of Linguistics at MIT and NYU, and that he was now conversant in 13 different languages.

Another brilliant moment happened during a trip to India. I was in Mumbai, Maharashtra, visiting the Dharavi slums when dusk fell, and we saw the full moon on the left, and the immense orange sun to the right, at the same time. It was an incredible, breath-taking sight, and what made it even more magical was the candles that everyone from the slums brought out at that moment as an offering to their Gods and as symbolic gestures to the dead. It was a special evening that we were a part of till night fell.
