About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To eat my way around the world (and write about it).

ABOUT ME

I'm a Chinese-American journalist, originally from Louisiana, who lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. My areas of specialization are food and drink, travel, and lifestyles, so I spend a lot of time on the road -- eating, drinking, and writing (I'm actually a certified wine and sake professional). If you're curious to know more about me, you can have a look at my blog, Tokyo through the Drinking Glass: http://tokyodrinkingglass.blogspot.jp/

I love connecting with new people and am open to new experiences. Although it's a bit difficult to convey in this little box, I have a great sense of humor and will probably make you laugh if you speak English, but I may make you cry if you speak Japanese (I'm still learning).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, I'm unable to host at the moment, but I am happy to offer recommendations and tips on traveling around Japan. My schedule is usually a bit crazy but if the timing works out, I'd also be interested in meeting up for food/drinks/coffee.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had only great experiences with the Couchsurfing community, both as a surfer and also as a guide.

Interests

I'm extremely passionate about food and food culture. I'm lucky that my work is related to this field because I've always had a deep interest in it. Food not only nourishes and sustains us, it unites us all.

When I'm not eating, drinking, or cooking, I'm probably reading or writing (or, sadly, doing dishes). Words are the other things that give shape to my world.

I studied fine arts at UC Berkeley before coming to Japan, and, even though I no longer practice art, it's still very important to me. My particular area of interest is contemporary art.

I love spending time with my friends, and I'm extremely fortunate to be able to say that, no matter where I go in the world, I'm likely to know someone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Grand Canyon at sunset -- no matter how many times you've seen it in postcards, nothing prepares you for how awesome it is.

Every time I see Tokyo, in all of its enormity, from above, I still get chills. The fact that I live here frankly astounds me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot of interests, but my particular field of expertise in Japanese sake, and wine and spirits to a lesser degree.

I write for a living, so I am also an avid reader and a lover of literature.
