I just returned from the northern most point of South America. To celebrate Halloween, Trujillo Andrés and I took a trip through the desert. We walked for miles with no shelter in sight. Erring on the side of minimalism (or possibly stupidi
ty) we brought only a 5 liter bottle of water and 4 lollipops. We came across a graveyard of 15 tombstones surrounded by a fence made of cacti. We marveled at neon blue lizards that quickly crossed our path, as though they had some place to be. My favorite part about the desert were the neon yellow butterflies that flapped around like puppies. The northern most point of South America.. I wondered what people in Patagonia were up to. Then, I experienced one of the most incredible things in my life: after hours of relentless desert, we came upon the ocean.
