About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Previous entry: conquering the world.
Current entry: being myself. I no longer care about the world.

More practical entry: I've started something I always dreamt of having. A travel-photography blog, my own space inside the World Wide Web. Check it out:

www.storyofalife.pl
https://www.facebook.com/storyofalifepl

Even more recent entry: I quit my job as an programmist and started studying journalism. So now, I'm a journalist. Hooray! Gonna write stuff about stuff. And about people. And people's stuff.

ABOUT ME

Open-minded, easy to talk to and an interesting person. At least that's what I want to think of myself.
Love travelling, love doing it penniless. Then you meet the best people.

It's nonsense. I'm just not able to describe myself inside this box.

PHILOSOPHY

"It's the things that are given, not won
Are the things that you want"

Do everything. Try everything. Meet people. Get to know them. Reject nothing. Just live. And be happy about it. Don't take it for granted.

"Happiness only real when shared."

And last but not least:

"Life is like a cigarette. Smoke it to the butt." - yeah, started smoking a few months ago. Oh, shut up, I know, I'm going to quit. Definitely.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf. And I host. Hanging out with people is nice but I'm also willing to just offer you a place to crash for the night. From my own travels I know how precious that kind of place can be.

UWAGA! ATTENTION! ATTENCION! ACHTUNG!
If you want to stay at my place, read this section. It is crucial to your survival.

I get a lot of requests. I can't host everybody. Also I don't want to. Here are a few guidelines for you(let's not call them requirements, you might get scared).

1. Use the Couchrequest feature, not a standard message.

2. Read this profile. The "My home" section as well. I repeat:
READ THE MY HOME SECTION!
because the sleeping arrangement is quite specific. Beware: there is a nasty and difficult password hidden in this section. Be sure to include it in your message.

3. Don't use generic one-sentence couchrequests. Come on, guys, you want me to let you into my house. Oh, you don't have to write love letters, I know that deep down inside you just want a free bed :D Just try at least getting the name right :)

4. If you're travelling in a group please include everybody's profile in the message.

333. Eat breakfasts everyday. They are healthy and delicious. (also known as the 11th commandment). Yup, that's all.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Enough to put it on my CV.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: When I can't travel myself I spend hours reading travel books. But everything is worth reading. Especially the menu of the nearest pizza place.
A Polish author I would recommend: Andrzej Stasiuk.

Music: Love it. No, I don't have a favourite band. Or a genre. I just enjoy good music. And playing the air guitar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKJJRnuCwF4 that's basically my idea of travelling

Movies: Into the Wild(everybody knows that one), Cloud Atlas and others. One recommendation from me: Mary and Max. It's good. Watch it. Because it's good.

Street art fan, I can show you some in my city if you want.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchiked with a sea ferry, and a tram :)
Completed the Main Sudetian Trail by myself
Cycled all the way through Polish coast.
Completed 1000km cross-Norway bike trip walking straight out of a hospital(everyone told me not to go).
Slept under a bridge and begged on the streets like a proper homeless person.
Hitchhiked 1500km in one day.
Built a school in Nepal.
Hiked in the Himalayas.

To be continued...

Teach, Learn, Share

I used to be an IT guy so if you have a problem with your computer I will at least try turning it off and on again.
I know a lot about hitch-hiking and travelling on a budget(which actually is a skill to learn).
I'm more than happy to share my knowledge of photography, however small it is.
Also I can introduce you to the world of climbing. We have indoor climbing gyms and great outdoors sports. If you're also into climbing be prepared :D

I'd like to improve the artistic side of my character. If you can paint, play an instrument or you have a craft then I'd like to learn from you.
Also I'm trying to learn Spanish and Russian.
I love cooking but I'm not very good at it (slowly changing). If you want to cook together (even better if it's a dish from your country or we can try Polish cuisine) I'd always say a big,fat "Yes".

What I Can Share with Hosts

My time, my knowledge about the city and the country. My memories and the warmth of my flat.

From a more practical point of view: I'm trying to provide the weary travellers with at least a bowl of cereal to start the day the right way.

From an even more practical point of view: i don't have a "routine". That's what old people have. So it might be that I have the time to spend with you, show you the city, go to the mountains with you and generally be the best host ever. Or it might be that you just get a free bed and don't see me for 3 days. Usually somewhere int the middle. You never know :D
