About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning enough about life and all that, in order to be able to answer my kids' questions

ABOUT ME

I live with my wife and three kids in Arco, in northern Italy. It's her hometown. While I'm prepared to acknowledge that Arco does have its charms (a mix of alpine mountain views with mediterranean flora), my OWN hometown, Riva del Garda, is far, far better. Arco has more sunlight, it's cheaper, there's a wider range of restaurants and shops, there's an eerie castle overlooking a dramatic viewpoint, there are more cycling routes, it's less crowded and magnolia trees do blossom earlier. There are also more parking lots and a REAL hospital.

But Riva has the biggest and most beautiful lake in Italy, and Arco doesn't. Ha!

We have three boys. They are best described as outspoken. We like to eat healthy food, but we dislike food fixations, and indeed any kind of fixations.

PHILOSOPHY

Aiming at "rather good" gives better results than aiming at perfection

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sometimes my work takes me far away from home. If I can, I really like to meet artists, musicians, designers, and indeed anybody with a head full of bubbling ideas.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met some couchsurfers in Hong Kong - people I wouldn't have met for any other reasons than the common desire to learn from wandering souls. It's been great.

Interests

Anything that connects technology with art
Photography - I am not very good at it and would like to learn more
Cooking as a way of understanding local cultures
Artists and performers
My wife is studying medicine all over again (it seems there's no end to it)

My children are interested in Dragons, Monsters, Explorers, Garbage collecting trucks, Chocolate, Firefighters, Anything That Stinks, Bugs, Dead Bugs, Almost Dead Bugs, Spiders, Letters, Numbers, Ice creams, Forbidden things, Books, Older Boys, Rotten Potatoes, Death, Flies, Computers, Guitars, Fast Cars, Boys Who Swear, Boys Who Get Into Trouble, Grandpa's Turtle, Birds Corpses.

Music, Movies, and Books

This would take us too far. I'll mention the last ones that really inspired me
Movie: "Last Year at Marienbad" by Alain Resnais
Music: Music for strings, celesta and percussion by Bela Bartok
Book: "The History of the World through 100 Objects" by Neil McGregor

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not prepared to disclose THIS to just anybody

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
Italian, English, my mother's cookbook, drawing, a tour at several museums in northern Italy (I work for them so I have insider knowledge), history of italian journalism between 1948 and 1955 (I don't see why anyone would want to learn this, but anyway I know a couple of things about it)

Countries I’ve Visited

Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal, Russian Federation, Scotland, Spain, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
