About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning to fly planes

ABOUT ME

I grew up as a part of New Zealand's most isolated family down on the South Islands West Coast at a place called Gorge River. My family lives two days hike from the nearest road and the only way to get there is by tramping for two days...or flying 30 minutes in a Cessna 180 fixed-wing from Haast or Queenstown. (One reason why I am learning to fly)

Since leaving home at the age of 17, I have worked and traveled across the globe, including teaching extreme survival skills and leading science expeditions at Scott Base in Antarctica, working with husky dogs in Arctic Norway, and sailing across the Northwest Passage on a small yacht.

Most recently I published my autobiography, The Boy From Gorge River.

I am now back in New Zealand for the near future and have decided it's time to finally chase my dream of flying and plan to turn that into a new career.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked like a slave. Hitchhiked from Greece to Spain in 9 days, Backpacked around Europe for 6 months. Climbed the world's highest mountain rising straight out of the sea (Mitre Peak, New Zealand), worked on a commercial salmon fishing boat in Alaska, free-dived in Hawaii, visited the rice terraces of Sagada, Philippines, Walked the streets of Manila in the dead of night alone, and many other things are ive forgotten about.
