About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live the life I have imagined.

ABOUT ME

Well, I spent a year abroad, and have never fully recovered from the travel bug that I caught during that experience. This also stems from having worked for an airline for 3 years, and doing extensive travel then. Nowadays, I work (too much in my opinion) and don't travel like I should for fun. I hope to change that. I'm glad this site is back up and running.

PHILOSOPHY

I guess live and let live.
Live free or die.
Live Well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to make international friends, as always. I want to host and stay with friends. I have been an unofficial couch surfer many times before this site came into being. I want to learn from everyone I come into contact with and hopefully improve my travel knowledge and network.

Interests

travel, friends, geography, history, art, singing, cards, boozing, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Yes, Yes, Yes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One cool thing - glowing waves in San Diego. I'm sure this is a common occurence elsewhere, but when the waves break, they glow. It's cool if you have never seen it. But I'm always looking for something amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I am happy to talk about where I have been, where I want to go, what I've learned, etc. I want to learn that from others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a story or two, a laugh, and a good song or recipe.
I lament having to do this, but I need to lay down a few rules:
1. First off, if you are solely on CS for a “free place to stay,” then you’re not embracing the intent of CS.

2. As a courtesy, I need to know when exactly you are planning on arriving at my place. It’s fine if you don’t know the exact arrival plans but I need 24 hours notice with a specific time of arrival on a specific mode of transport. If you’re planning on hitchhiking, ride-sharing, or do not really know how you’re getting here, may I suggest booking a hostel with 24 reception for the first night.

3. I prefer to host people who have “given back” to the community. Which means you’re an active participant in your local chapter and have hosted guests.

4. Cooking and sharing a meal together is great. Using my kitchen in the same way you would use a hostel kitchen is not.

5. Traveling on a budget and saving money is great. We all want that. However, this is an expensive city. You should plan on having a budget that isn’t so cost prohibitive that you aren’t enjoying being here and cannot go to a museum, concert or cafe (kind of misses the point of being in Vienna). There are plenty of things to do here that are low cost but trying to entertain surfers that are on a very small budget (<5 € a day for example) is not realistic. I think it’s realistic to budget about 20-40 € a day.
