About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To go everywhere.

ABOUT ME

I am this guy who lives in this city and does stuff. I cook in a big restaurant five days a week, and rarely cook on the other two. Born in a small town surrounded by national forest, and now addicted to life in the city.

Once upon a time i thought i would be a timpanist in a big orchestra. packed up my stickbag and went to the big university in search of musical enlightenment. after a while, i thought i really wanted to make films, but i was past the cutoff point to change programs. after much procrastination i finally became a bachelor of music.

Not having a million music jobs right out of school, i thought it would be a good idea to make money, so my number one hobby, cooking, seemed like a logical way to pay rent. fastforward years and cuisine is the passion and i had all but forgotten how to hold a drumstick. instead of playing in the philharmonic, i was plating the 4-star meal before the show.

then the kitchen began to wear thin, so i packed my bags and took a one-way flight to frankfurt to do anything else. on a quest to learn every language i mostly figured out how to speak german nearly well enough to fool a native. enough czech to get a beer, pizza, and monthly metro card. and at least 17 languages in which i can order a draft beer.

having mostly escaped the kitchen, i was for some time a receptionist at a hostel in Praha. professional couchsurfing. eventually i ended up couchsurfing the same wonderful house so often that i became a resident. at this house, i met a montrealer, who managed to convice me that Quebec was the best place ever. Thus, i repacked my bags to fly back across the big ocean, et j'ai commencée à apprendre le Français.

PHILOSOPHY

life is too short to live a regular life. if theres an afterlife, i can watch tv then. as a smoker, i have even less time to see everything before i find out if i have time for the telly, so theres not a moment to waste...
point two: if we doubled the number of smokers, and halved the number of drivers, we might all live longer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am active in couchsurfing events in the city. I enjoy meeting people from other places. A group of friends and I have started a more or less weekly boardgame night here on couchsurfers, to bring together people around a few piles of cards and good company.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For nearly three years I had a couchsurfing account, but never really used it, mistakenly thinking of this as a travel tool only. After a year living in Montreal it seemed i still didn't actually know anyone. So one day i randomly decided to start showing up for cs events. before i knew it, i had met most of my favorite people in my new city, and found some good friends in the city coming from all corners of the globe.
the moral of this story: couchsurfing is not just for traveling, couchsurfing starts at home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Good film is better than anything, i hate bad music more than dental surgery. Fellini, Gilliam, Monty Pythons anything, Peter Greenaway, Jeunet, Twyker, Besson, zombie kinda stuff, space kinda stuff, and of course Hitchcock, because i still like a good old-fashoned story.

I dont read much because i listen to too much music, and i try not to mix.

Abbreviated summary of my musical tastes: King Crimson, Bauhaus, Beethoven, Nine Inch Nails, С

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So everyone gets to this question in the little profile thingy, but we all think tabarfuck, how the hell do i answer a question like that.
Its mostly all been amazing, in between the boring parts.
I have a three-year-old nephew. hes pretty much the most amazing thing ever.
goulash with stale-bread dumplings.
The sunrise on Karluv Most.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have cooked everything, at least once. except for bagels, but thats why god created bakeries on the eighth day (but try getting them to deliver on the seventh...) so if you want to learn how to make anything other than bagels, i would be glad to help you out, in exchange for a heated sleeping place and good company.
i can teach you how to cook foie gras, and if the fact that i love this food offends you, sorry but we cant be friends.
