About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To go the long way home - West, overland from Korea to Canada.

ABOUT ME

After university, I moved to Ulsan, South Korea. I was an english teacher there for three years. I've been travelling since October of 2014, and I want to spend more time abroad before I go home for good.

I'm currently living in Hanoi.

When I go home to Canada, the plan is to study International Law at the University of Ottawa, but I've applied to several programs.

I play saxophone, video games, and dungeons and dragons. I try to involve myself in events that are happening wherever I go.

I like language exchange groups, meetups, and exploring. I'm not much of a clubbing person, but I do like karaoke. I sing a few Korean songs!

PHILOSOPHY

There's more that bring people together in the human experience than would ever drive them apart. People have so much in common merely as a consequence of being human.

Also, I've made it my mission to say "I'm in" to as many things as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really like hosting people, and I enjoy showing people around town. I lived in Ulsan for almost three years, and I feel like I know my way around there pretty well.

When I get back to Canada, I'll start hosting again for sure!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed in my share of hostels, and I like hostels for the same reason I like Couchsurfing: the people you meet. It's different, though, because when you stay at hostels you mostly meet other travellers, but the people you stay with when you couchsurf are people who really know the city you're visiting. They can show you the secret, cool places that aren't on any map.

Interests

Exploring the city, playing video games, and generally having a good time. I like languages and books, and learning new things. I cook for myself, and I think I cook well.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm the type to watch enough movies that my "favourite" changes week to week. I read, too. Mostly online, news, and opinion writing besides what I read for classes.

I also watch Supernatural, the Walking Dead, Constantine, and a new show called Backstrom.
Recently I've been reading a lot of Terry Pratchett.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've predicted the future through dreams before, accurately, and more than once.
I lived for three years in South Korea, a month in the Philippines, and since November in Vietnam.
I'm a scuba diver.
I said hello to a cuttlefish underwater in the Philippines.
I went to a gay bar with a Japanese pop star in Tokyo.
I bet on horse races in Hong Kong.
I fired a B40 rocket launcher, M79 grenade launcher, and a PKM machinegun in Cambodia.
I drive a motorcycle in Vietnam.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been an English teacher and a newspaper editor for years now, so if you need any help with the language I can definitely help you.

I can cook for you, and I want to learn how to cook amazing food.

I can teach you how to read Korean in less than a week, for sure.
