To plan my next breakout from my 6x6 cell (ie:cubicle)... In all seriousness thought to plan out next vacation!

ABOUT ME

I am a pastors kid that graduated from Central College with a Environmental Science degree. I now work for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). I love the outdoors and find myself kayaking, biking, or hiking on the weekends, unless it's winter then I am probably woodworking in the basement, or working on my old trucks. I love to travel but had to sacrifice travel plans for work and paying the bills. My beautiful wife (Erica) has 3 semesters left at Drake Law School here in Des Moines, and grew up on a small family farm in western Iowa. She's not really a couch surfer herself, but she enjoys when we have company. We are newly-weds and very busy most of the time; But we try to make time for travelers that need a place to stay! I don't usually check my email on weekends, so if you need a place to stay it's usually best to post a request during the week when I check in often! Happy Travels!

PHILOSOPHY

Take life as it comes... You really don't know anything about someone until you've had the chance to sit down and share stories with them. Other than that I think people over plan for the future when they should be enjoying the present! Even in hard times I try to live for the "here and now" so I don't regret anything later!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I consider myself an experienced hiker/camper/backpacker...although others might say expert... I am putting up CS'ers coming through Des Moines and giving all the advice I can in the groups I belong to. Especially anything to do with backpacks, camping gear, and high altitude climbing/hiking.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in Europe and UK with friends while backpacking in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg! I have also surfed in Denver, Colorado just before 2009's tent surf!

Interests

out-door activities... sports of any kind, horseback riding, rock climbing, camping, hiking/backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting. I'm an avid DIY person. I rebuild engines, fix cars, hunt, make home made beer... I'll do anything hands on that will teach me something new or give me a new skill... Especially if it might save me a $1 in the future. No I'm not cheap; it's just that some days in the office aren't very rewarding and i like to challenge my mind!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an avid outdoorsman that started at age 2 when my parents began taking us camping. Throughout the years I have done anything and everything out doors! Backpacking Europe and UK, climbing the Rockies, kayaking and canoeing the boundary waters, and the weekend campout are just a few of the things I've done! So to teach, learn, and share I would say ask me anything about outdoors stuff!
