Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

VROOOM!

ABOUT ME

I can be really funny and outrageous, or quiet and kept to myself. I love good people and unexpected experiences, but have no problem going it alone. My life has changed a lot in the last few years, leaving me feeling that I actually know very little of what I thought I knew, but I'm excited about all the possibilities I can't for see at this time. I'm a hard worker, and a devoted friend, but have no problem expressing my opinions. I used to be a die-hard techno dj and fan, and am glad to be from Detroit where I really experienced the music in a small scene away from all the clubs. I've been to dirty parties and seen disgusting things, and although I wouldn't go back now, I'm glad I got to experience those times. The city's a tough place, but with the right people you can have the time of your life that you'll never experience anywhere else!

PHILOSOPHY

Back in Detroit I was saying that good people are hard to find these days. I think thats changed a little for me now. Currently I feel that good people are everywhere but that the media teaches us to fear our neighbors. This trend develops personal paranoia and restricts many people from truly opening themselves to growth from experiences with others.
I don't want to allow myself to be a victim of this anymore. Instead, I am making a conscious effort to open myself to others while at the same time allowing myself to be open to them.
So lets trust each other and see what kind of crazy experiences we can come across togeather.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted a good few, surfed with even greater. I regularly post and try to meet up whenever possible. I really believe in CS and try to actively participate in whatever capacity I can at any given time.

In the Past:
After attending my first Berlin Beach Camp (awsome!) I hosted two other beach campers in my room in Berlin....two days later I had another there as well....I'm looking forward to getting back to Detroit and being able to host as often as possible. I've also surfed both officially and unofficially. I really enjoy the community and will continue to be as active as I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience was from the friend of a couch surfer. I met him briefly and he lent me his flat while he was out of town....it really reassured my faith in human trust. Since then I've surfed and hosted when ever I could.

Interessen

Ok, so I'm updating. I'm gonna leave whats below as a reminder to myself, and glimpse for others regarding the progressions to where I am now. I've been in a good few spots, grown a bit, and broadened my horizons..I still love techno but its really not much of my life anymore. I'm still passionate about cooking, but I no longer do it as a profession. I just started riding motorcycles and hope I can get better before hurting myself or others! I've also come to really love riding my bicycle. I'm not a crazy cyclist and my bike is only a hand me down..but I love its functionality, ability to connect with the world around me, and the feeling of self-propulsion. Been hiking a lot and enjoying the outdoors whenever I can..Camping is a big one too. I became a burner in '09, can't wait to return. Starting a degree in urban planning in the fall of 2010. I get down with sustainability, clean/green/and renewable. I like politics though circular debates loose my interest quickly. Music still touches all ends of my soul, but I find myself listening to more blues/indi/and eastern European beats.

Techno!, cooking, techno, live music, techno, traveling, laughing, being silly and dorky, making music on my computer, spinning records, putting on beats for people to shake their groove thing to, sleeping, drinking coffee, enjoying a good beer, hiking, camping, sleding, listening to new music, brining down the man and helping others, mumbling to myself, DANCING! (especially to funk music), bobing my head when my feet are too tired to move, urban exploring, all art, but especially graffitti, throwing parties, eating chocolates, good times, good people, and giving back what has so gratiously been given to me!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

almost any and all....just depends on the mood. I love good movies....funny/independent/drama/wierd/WTF did I just watch...but I've been reading a lot more these days compared to watching the boobtube. I don't stick to anything, but usually read on suggestions from friends....but I also like political biographies..cause I'm a big dork.

Music.....all and all....techno, house, minimal, funk, jazz, big blues fan, some indie rock, rhythm oriented stuff, classical (no too knowledgeable, but you'll hear it on my radio a lot...find it relaxing), good hip hop, not that club bullshit (I'm pretty sure the American rap industry is over exporting and ruining the minds of children across the world), bluegrass and folk, some hippie stuff, gogo bordelo (not sure how to classify that one)....I guess my ears just enjoy quality musicians from which their devotion pours out their souls, through their music makers, and into my mind

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I think living itself is pretty amazing. I've gone to school, met great people, lived in South Africa(2x), camped in the Khalahari, thrown a lot of fun events, cooked a lot of good food, held a continuous radio show, slept on the beach, wandered around a lot of empty factories, skinny dipping (thats the best!), hung out with orphans in joburg and Georgia, worked with the Cheorkee nation, helped other students as a teachers assistant, watched the sun set over Robin Island, roamed around the mountains in Montana, and I'm sure a lot more, I just can't think of it right now!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Apparently I'm pretty good at teaching people to open beers with a lighter (I have a 90% success rate), but thats probably because it took me two years to learn how. I can also teach other Ameri's how to use the can openers you'll encounter in Europe...It took me a couple times and some messy kitchens, but I think I got it down.
IF you ask I'll also give you social/political/economical review of how the city of Detroit got to be the anomilie that it is today....I think its quite interesting, but others may find it boring, so just let me know if you're interested.
I'm also pretty handy in a kitchen. I worked in them for a long time so maybe I can show you a couple of things...But I hope you can also show me, there is nothing I enjoy more than learning new kitchen tricks....except maybe some really good kick you in your teeth techno music.

I got this advice the other day: "just stay outta truck stops", but come on, that can't always be true, right?
