About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Note: (Sept, 2021) Happy to have just celebrated my 200th CS guest and my 14th year on CS!!
Please note: I've put in for a change of address and they will be sending me a postcard. I live approximately 5500 E. 10th Street, INDY, 46219

I'm firmly devoted to promoting understanding and compassion between people of all cultures and beliefs. This is one way of doing my part.

ABOUT ME:
Born and raised here in INDY, but spent some great years in Washington, D.C, Chicago, and Cincinnati, OH. Back here with my family and have a perfect job that uses my background and my interests.

I am a consultant for a large non-profit, helping establish mental health and substance abuse clinics here in the state.

I have a long history of entertaining/hosting international students and feel very fortunate having such diverse friendships! I have had students and guests from Greece, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Costa Rica, Korea, and Iran stay with me and am honored to count them as life-long friends!

NOTE: I'm a roomie and best bud with a fellow CS host:

PHILOSOPHY

"Perhaps to pose the question, 'Why are we here?', is in itself, the answer" (me)
Cogito ergo sum. (Descartes)
Lex orandi, lex credendi. (Aquitaines)
Carpe Diem! (Horace)
All Things in Moderation, including Moderation. (Oscar Wilde)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hi!.. I've come to realize I need to "enforce rules" for prospective CS guests.

#1. Couchsurfing has a "confirm" function which indicates you have accepted my offer to host you. If you have not "confirmed" your intention to stay at my house within 24 hours of me accepting your request, I WILL CONVERT MY "YES" TO "DECLINE".

#2, In your request, please tell me how you will be travelling (air, bus, train, car, hitchhiking) and if you have any dietary restrictions. Thanks! (99% of the time I can come pick you up from public transportation)

#3. You really need to have filled out your profile pretty well. This is especially important if you don't have any references established yet.

#4. If you're traveling with a friend, they too need to have a profile. It really doesn't take that long to type a few sentences about yourself and upload a pic or two. I cannot accept guests who do not have a profile on CS.

#5. (Probably should be #1!) Not a big fan of "cut and paste" CS requests. If your message starts with "Hi There" (and not even bothering to use my name) I'm probably going to decline. If you want me to open my home to you, please take the time to call me by name. Thanks!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had a great group of "Passers-by" in my home and each one a great potential new friend. Also had the chance to surf in Chicago, as well as in Paris. I also had an amazing CS experience in Ireland last summer, extraordinary hospitality (it seems like the Irish are experts at this!) and an opportunity to live in the countryside for a day or two.

Interests

Big on bicycling here in town and can be a bit of a gym rat. Also enjoy camping, travel and working on my music.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything written by Richard Bach is on the top of my list. Am now really into Bruce Lipton, and Jerry/Esther Hicks: Law of Attraction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Standing in my grandfather's birth home in Galway, Ireland. Walking the grounds of the Taj Mahal. Touching the four "bases" of the Eiffel Tower, strolling through St. Peter's in Rome. Drinking a pint of Guiness and a shot of Jameson's at their factories in Dublin. Attending an unbelievably opulant Indian wedding in Bangkok.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a variety of interests; philosophy, current events, spirituality (wholistic and non-sectarian), "New Age" approaches to life, fairly proficient at piano/keyboard. Recently started to learn massage, so I'm always happy to try my hand on weary travelers if they're game!
