About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience as much of Asia as I can while I'm here!

ABOUT ME

I'm something of a wanderer. Right now, I'm allowing my thirst for adventure and genuine experiences to carry me endlessly from place to place in an attempt to connect with as many people and explore as many new places as possible. Right now, I'm based on Cheonan, South Korea. I've been living and working here for several years -- it's a great jumping-off point for traveling to other parts of Asia. I am a teacher, a lifelong musician, a lover of literature, and above all an adventurer. At the risk of sounding like a cliche, I have to confess that I'm the kind of guy who climbs trees and skips stones on the water because I firmly believe that some of the finest pleasures in life are also the simplest. I see a lot of beauty in the world, and I fall in love with people and places embarrassingly easily.

PHILOSOPHY

I quote Thoreau: "Live deep and suck out all the marrow of life."

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Life Aquatic, Into the Wild, Forrest Gump, The Lord of the Rings....just to name a few.
Favorite writers include: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Ernest Hemingway, Hunter S. Thompson, Shermann Alexie, Louise Erdrich, Margaret Atwood, John Steinbeck, J.R.R. Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Lois Lowry, Edward Abbey, and.....I'll probably add to this later.
Music: All good music. If I start naming bands or artists, we'll be here all day...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've ever done for myself was back in 2006 when I went to live in beautiful New Zealand for six months. I can't even begin to explain the impact this experience had on me. Some of the highlights of my time there included hiking admist the breath-taking scenery of the Milford and Kepler treks, skydiving in Wanaka, bungee jumping and paragliding in Queenstown, whale watching in Kaikoura, and meeting the nicest, most interesting people while hitch-hiking all over the place. I honestly had the time of my life. I can't wait to spend some more time there one day.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hmm...let's see....I play music, so I'm always willing to share music with people, or collaborate to create music. I'm also an English teacher who likes to read -- so if you're not bored by book talk, I'm probably good for that too. Perhaps I can recommend a book or two that you haven't read before, or you could do the same for me. I traded titles with my very first couch surfing host and got some really good reads out of the experience!

I've been in Korea for quite a while now, and I live with my Korean girlfriend. If you're new to Korea, we'd be happy to do what we can to introduce you to the culture. We're located in a good spot for exploring the more "exotic" side of Korean cuisine and drinking culture.
